CAMPAIGN TO STOP FIXTURE MADNESS

Did you know that ESL teams had played 68.7% of their matches last season by January 1st last season? we all know the feeling, playing every mid week and weekend during the first four months then in the new year many teams can go two to three weeks without a first team match.

Right lets examine why this happens? People complain about the League Cup, 'its too many matches,IT shouldnt be group stages, just straight knockout', i beg to differ, the fomat is fine its just played at the wrong time of the year.

In the first few months of the season ESL clubs should be able to concentrate on the national and county cup competitions, namely the FA cup and vase and the Essex Senior Cup,now lets be realistic by November most if not all of our clubs are out of these competitions and if one club did stay involved in all three competitions into November then thats a nice problem to have.

With my plan clubs would go into the new year involved in the two ESL cup competitions and possibly the East Anglian Cup and Essex Thameside Trophy, why are we presently expecting clubs to play League Cup matches midweek in August and September when they have F A Cup or Vase matches the following weekend and the crowds are suffering with champions league football being shown on TV on the same nights.

If the ESL took on board my revolutionary plans i have estimated that each club would earn over

I for one absolutley love having midweek fixtures most weeks... something to look forward to, breaks the week up and is much better than training!

The start of the year is exciting and the games come thick and fast....in all honesty, at this level any player who claims fatigue is a joker! Most lads I know play Sundays aswell so the midweek games dont affect them that much.

A problem with your idea Richard is the weather....January and February time is renowned for games being postponed and sides therefore use the free midweek slots to play the re-scheduled matches.

If a team is lucky enough to enjoy a nice run or two in cup competitions then they may be like Concord and Enfield last season and forced to fit in 3/4 matches a week!

jason i couldnt give two fecks about the players my concern is for the supporters,at the start of last year basildon had one first team game in eight weeks and i had to watch the reserves play for a couple of months.

how old you now? i see you going into management,i see you as a kind of john doyle character.

give it 10 years i picture you as a future bees boss.

Ha Ha, let's hear it for the fans!!!!

I for one am not looking forward to watching Intermediate football in the winter months without a stand to shelter in.

If Joe doesn't get into senior football again soon, I may may have to buy one. grin

great point richard i agree. to go away to clapton or walthem forest (eton manor) in the mid week is just rong. also essex senior cup and gb trophee i can understand playing but to play the league cup in group stages is just unfair, some teams havnt got big enough squads for that. essex senior cup should be a knock out cup as then if you want to put a weak team out in first round and get knocked out then thats their choice, but geting forced to play 6 mid week games is harsh

I'm 26 mate, although looking at me, you would think I had a couple of uphill paper rounds as a kid!

Management one day mate, although still got at least a further 6/7 years in me hopefully so a long way off yet! But definatley not a John Doyle character....for a start, I am tall enough to be allowed on rides at theme parks ha ha!!!

Appreciate your views as a spectator, just letting you know from the players perspective! I think it's a shame the Eastern Fllodlit cup was stopped....that was the one with groups of 3 teams so you played 2 home and 2 away games!

Seem's a long time ago now mate...enjoyed it though! Scored a few and had some great nights out - Bas Vegas was ledge

First year was at Basildon for the 2002/2003 season under both Steve Wheeler and for the majority of that campaign under Mark Kuean!! Scored the winner in Enfield Town's first ever home loss in a 1-0 win for The Bees! Played with Neil Richmond, Kightley, Stevey Knott amongst others....good times.

Second season was under Mark Jenkins! Scored 'That Goal' v a star studded Hornchurch side in pre-season!

Long term injuries and suspensions hit that squad hard that season...the potential was there!

I personally had a 90 day ban from September onwards.

We beat Defending Champions Enfield 4-1 on the season's opener.

Basildon United: Green, Smith, Jay (Poole 79), Manda, Beale, Witney, Curtis (Jones 69), Coleman, Wilson (Leek 63), Richmond, Dawson. Unused subs; Baker, King.Booked; Witney, Wilson.

Remarkably, Of that Squad....Louis Green, Jason Jay, Dave Manda, Simon Dawson and Terry Baker have all been in a Manor starting XI this season!!

P.S I have the goal saved somewhere ha ha happybouncer

Doyley did`nt do too bad in all honesty...doubt whether he could have done better on any of the goals!

Richard193, Jenks is a cracking manager....not sure about that Mark Massey. all I remeber about him is shouting and swearing at everyone from the opposite dug out!!!
