Being A Football Fan

Recommended Posts

In 21 years of watching Spurs, and 6 years of watching St Albans, I have never once witnessed a promotion or relegation. That's quite dull.

In that time, the highest Spurs have finished is 3rd (1985, 1987 and 1990) and the highest finish St Albans have managed is 4th (2003).

I haven't even witnessed a decent relegation battle. Spurs were loitering near the bottom for a while in 1992 as were St Albans in 1998, but both ultimately finished mid-table.

Cup-wise, I was at Wembley in both 1991 and 1999 when Spurs won the FA and League Cups respectively, as I also was in 1987 when they lost to Coventry. I was also at Letchworth in 2000 when St Albans won their only trophy of the last 5 years - the Herts Senior Cup.

In the eighteen years since 1984 when they won the UEFA Cup at the Lane, Spurs have won just two trophies, and their highest Premier League finish is 8th. When they last won the league, man hadn't even been into space, and no-one had ever heard of The Beatles.

St Albans have only once progressed past the last 32 in the Trophy, have met League oppostition just twice in the FA Cup in the last 22 seasons, and have been trying to win the same league for over 70 years without success.

I must support the two biggest under-achieving sides in English football!!

Still...

One of the Clubs you support has had recent success. St Albans City Reserves have been propmoted to the Premier Division of The Essex and Herts Border Combination League at the first attempt this season and St Albans City Midweek Youth have won 3 trophies in the past two years (hoping to make it 4 tonight).

Perhaps you should come and watch sometime to lighten the gloom !!

How was lunch ?

try being a Leeds fan . Nothing since The last ever (proper) 1st division!
and even then 2 league titles, 2 Inter cities Fairs cups, 1 FA cup, 1 League cup and 2 2nd division titles in 62 years is hardly glory eh, but ah what memories. The so nearly's the close runs, the pain ,the gloriousness of loving the game.

I've never been to Hemel to see us play before, we can go to Wally World after the game!

I think the prem is always going to be boring if only one team goes up, everyone knows it has to change ad sooner or later it will.
