Slough v Uxbridge

The players seemed as baffled as the supporters about the formation, if there was a formation. It is all very well having all these attacking players but the defence was left with little protection, not that the back three seemed to know exactly where they were meant to be playing. Uxbridge were clearly the better team and sussed out pretty quickly that we had nobody covering the wings. Very disappointing all round.

The defence was all at sea. Carl Dennison didn't have the best of games it's fair to say, but he wasn't helped by what was in front of him. And then to make matters worse Dean Harper gets himself sent off yet again, the third defender sent off this season at a time when we don't have many. We tried to rely on scoring more than we conceded, but it didn't work.

Word on the terrace is that Fenton will miss Tuesday's match so it's very important Evans and McGonigley get back to fitness asap, or we're a bit screwed.

Fenton and Harper are both a booking away from suspension too which doesn't help things.

As said, very disappointed today. Thought we could get a result from the game. Defensively the team is shocking, a clean sheet hasn't been kept since Bridgwater last season some 12 games ago. At times Uxbridge had so much space and time to do whatever they wanted it was frightening.

Played better with 10 men too!

From my perspective the Harper/Nicholls incident looked bad. However, having spoken with people at the far end it seems that there was little or no contact and Harper was adamant that was nothing in it.

That said we played better with ten men. We started brilliantly, the goal was sublime and then we seemed disjointed. We struggled to get the ball from the back to the front.

With ten men it seemed that we decided to keep the ball and pass it into feet and that was when we looked at our most effective rather than aimlessly hitting the ball into the "channels".

I thought Chopper had a decent second debut and looked to spread the play and Tommy posed a threat left flank. Just hope we can get some defenders fit and suspension free asap.

Sorry Ted, I forgot that you had already mentioned that to me. In which case my initial reaction was spot on. An incredibly daft thing to do.

we started so well, then we got nailed ! if we had lost by 6 today we could not have complained...

to lose 2 - 1 with 10 men was a result in its self , Carl kept us in the game in the second half , made some very good saves...

Really hope we can sort this out , for tuesday .... the local derby is so important and I am sure the boys will look back today and move forward....

up the Rebels,,,,

I know it's Sweetmans job to find some positives out of the game but apart from the first 5 minutes it was a pathetic, clueless performance.

I think 2-1 was an injustice to Uxbridge who, with a bit of luck could have won 6 or 7-1. Not that they were that good but we were that poor.

I think they need to be reminded that they are not good enough to just pull on the shirt and go through the motions.

I also think that Sweetman is trying to accommodate 3 strikers when it is patently obvious that it doesn't work.

The 3 strikers are good players but they are being made to look ordinary by the lack of service they are being given.

It was always going to be a struggle what with Evans and Gumbs suspended against a physical side - remember than several of todays players I believe only just made it to full fitness. The Observer yesterday had Byron Bubb as a major doubt.

So why play them? there were fit players on the bench who are part of the squad. Especially as we have a game on Tuesday.

Perhaps now you will see my point when I stress sweetman and roberts are no where near up to the task-maybe managing Sunday park sides ok, but this is Slough Town and must be taken seriously.

Ever good manager knows you built a team from the back first, its no good having players with ability in attack if the defence keeps letting goals in.Yes could easily have been 7 or 8 to Uxbridge and I don't see them as title contenders.God knows what's going to happen when we play Truro.

Also it strikes me that sweetmans control over ill disciplined players is nil, when they needlessly get sent off they let everbody down.

Before its too late I would like to see an experienced manager brought in.

Apart from Harris, the bench was full of youth players. I suppose Sweetman thought it best to keep with the same squad to the greatest extent possible under the circumstances.

It's probably hard to build a team from the back with no spare defenders to put on the bench because one of your defenders is suspended and one is injured.
Yes the squad was hand picked from the start of preseason, but there is nothing wrong with building on what you have got. If you know anything about Slough Town you will know that it's a lot better than the last 2 seasons where we had a new player every other week at least and it still never got better!

exactly ARAAS the fact we have roughly the same team every week is a start. without consistency we will go nowhere but of course we will add to the team in a bid to improve. wiz seems to think sweets should have handpicked a title winning team completely ignoring the fact he doesnt have the resources to get in that many players of that standard.

as for the game it was annoying. yet again we didnt wake up defensively at least till the 2nd half. quite how we scored a goal of that standard and followed it with 40 odd minutes of pathetically poor football i do not know. we cant rely on the good attackers we have to score 3 every time. however if your defenders are always suspended or injured theres not much you can do. sweets mentions loan signings coming in hopefully they will give us extra depth in quality just till the injuries and suspensions clear up a bit

I don't understand your reasoning-didn't the managers and you not think that defenders could either be injured or suspended at some point in the season. And therefore should that have not been catered for.Did the managers not know that Evans and friends were a tad volatile and subject to tossing their toys out of the pram ?

Further more I don't understand your understanding of what I was refering to,it was sweetman himself who said his team was hand picked ( not I )which to me confirms his lack of football knowledge.Of course you can add or take away the odd few players to try and improve things players-but apart from Evans have you noticed that all the other new players are rejects from other clubs, some of which are further down the league than us, so I don't hold out much hope.
