South Park v Knaphill Surrey Prem Cup 08/10/08

What a game! On a cold, damp, misty evening in deepest, darkest Reigate, a titanic battle took place between the good burghers of South Park FC and the stout yeomen of Knaphill. An entertaining first half saw chance for both teams, but both lacked the killer touch in front of goal. The second half started with South Park taking the lead in the 49 min through M Ward drifting in on the right to shoot low past the Knappers keeper. With 2 mins Knphill were level after good work by Ricky Hogsden on the byeline and a looped cross for Matt Miller to head past the keeper.

 

As the half drew to a close a number of niggles came about, starting with a

50/50 ball resulting in a South Park player having to leave the pitch injured and a disallowed goal (for a push) for South Park. The temperature was raised when 3 mins into added time South Park pressure resulted in what every-one thought would be the decider. With just seconds to go, Knaphill had a free kick on the left hand side with tight angle on the goal. Top scorer Matt Baker took control and punched a superb equaliser into the top right hand corner.

 

Extra time: South Park looked the more dangerous side in the 1st half of extra time, but a second booking saw a South Park player leave the field of play. The extra man told and Ricky Hogsden fired a low curling shot that pinged off the post to put the Knappers in the lead for the first time. Despite a gallant effort from South Park who did not give up, Orando Pike added a fourth in the dying minutes to complete a great victory.

 

All due respect to South Park as they worked hard and played some good attacking football, and we wish them well for the rest of the season. Bring on Leatherhead Reserves!!
