Sappleton

Played one game in setanta shield and now released according to the Eastbourne Argus:

You can't help but wonder and hope can you:

'Meanwhile, Borough have decided not to offer Pat Sappleton a permanent contract. The former Crawley defender initially joined on a one-month deal but has now been released.'

We are obviously not his first choice so why don't we leave it at that. If he wants to come here then he can approach the club and if he can offer what the club wants then maybe a deal can be made.

As far as I am concerned the ball should be in his court.

Looking at this from a positive point of view, the guy has played in the Conference for Crawley, and obviously feels that's the level he should try to get a job at. He goes on a month's trial at Eastbourne and is no better than they already have, so they don't sign him.

Either he can try and get a job with a Conference South outfit and risk being just a squad member... OR... he can return here and do a job suring up our leaky defence, add some experience to the squad and attract the scouts from those Higher Divisions.

If BA can persuade him that returning here can be the stepping stone back to the Conference place he desires, it could be a 'win-win situation' for all parties.

I am not being negative and am aware of Pat Sappleton's qualities but hasn't this been going on for a couple of seasons now?

I'm pretty sure that he played half of the PSF against Erith & Belvedere a couple of months back so everyone knows the score. It would seem that he wants to play at a higher level anyway and we are not high on his list of priorities.

As I said in my earlier entry on this thread I think the ball is in his court.
