Money raising

How many times has that been bought up, yet still nothing. I am not sure what role the board members have and what they actually do. We only hear from KP and and occasionally Colin Page but anybody else is silent. I may be wrong, and they may be beavering away behind the scenes, but as usual we won't hear about it. Someone needs to get this sorted out ASAP. I mentioned this last week, re lost revenue from Player/match/ball/programme sponsorship. Potential revenue (going by current rates on website)is nearly

Trouble is, getting a Commercial Manager is very much a chicken and egg situation - presumably unless you can find someone who would do it on a totally commission basis (would any of us do that?) you are obviously going to have to commit monies to that cause with no guarantee of a return.

And looking around Margate itself, how many "local" firms are left that would be in a position to take on sponsorship. Given the fact that Westwood Cross seems to have taken over Thanet's shopping base, there is only a finite amount of money there.

Alternatively you are looking at supporters doing the leg work and MISA already seem to do plenty, especially on match days with catering etc.

How much more could active supporters do that they don't already?

Which brings me to back to match days and the meat raffle and 50/50 draws. I don't know what the meat raffle takes but on the 50/50 draw for the Hastings game the prize money was

Good points - I was aware that people do buy multiple tickets but I was being generous in respect of the number who actually participated!

And the thought of selling tickets in the bar/catering outlets is a good idea. Maybe we could elaborate on that by selling tickets at those points up to and including the interval and, instead of announcing the winners at half time, announce the winners just after half time, or even the end of the game.

I may be wrong, but it seems to me that the club is relying on the developer funding all of MFC issues;and thus feels it does not need to do much itself to raise funds.

Hence the planning consent request-upon successful achievement the developer will supposedly pay HRMC.

From afar-it looks a bit complacent-all eggs in one basket.

Lets hope it works, but even if the stategy is successful, the club should be raising funds anyway through the type of schemes you suggesat to get even more money, which in the un likely event of a surplus-can go towards the team.

Totally agree MM. It appears that they are relying on what they hope is going to happen, rather than having a plan B. I know MISA help out a lot but I believe they should also be holding back some funds into an emergency account in case the worst happens.

Hopefully, Jeff, this might come to fruition with Pre season Friendlies next season, lets hope.

Interesting points raised, and let us also consider the following. We seem more than happy to pay the wages of Southall and Yorath. By my reckoning, they are here to aid matters on the pitch and, if we were sitting pretty in the top five, or even top half, of the table, you could perhaps justify said expenditure. However, considering we are languishing in the bottom five, are Southall and Yorath really proving a success?

Yet we seem reluctant to appoint a Commercial Manager who, if successful, I'm sure, would raise a lot of money for the club; something we are evidently in desperate need of. Perhaps one of the 'elite team' of backroom staff should have been replaced with a Commerical Manager.

Are'nt Yorath and Southall there to ostensibly develop the reserves and youth.

It has to be long term surely, and i guess will be deemed a success if a few of those players start to command transfer fees to benefit the club.

It can be done, but don't forget that a commercial manger would need to raise funds equivalent to his/her own salary ,before any additional money starts to flow to the club.

Having said that;i also reckon someone doing that type of role-say 3 days a week is an essential. However, they in turn need to be 'managed'

I would have thought that Neville and Terry could be persuaded to speak at a "Sporting evening" at Hartsdown Park or another suitable venue, I am sure they have stories to tell which would be of great interest to most sports fans and not only Margate supporters. Properly advertised I am sure we would get a full house at the Hartsdown and if we could supply a meal of some sort, nothing too extravagent and charge say

Very good idea GT im sure that this would be a great way to make the club some money and with the connections that Terry and Neville have , they might be able to persuade other X pro`s to do another night . Everyone would be happy the club would make money and BA would hopefully get some money to spend then we would know that the money is going to at least the right area`s of the club . Up the Gate .

The 'sporting evening' is fantastic idea. How could it be suggested to the board then. With their contacts and the potential local interest( due to that sort of evening not happening too often in that part of the world)I am sure that you could get more than one evening set up.As an aside maybe get the board members to do a routine similar to 'it aint arf hot mum'..........just a thought. But the original idead really needs to be followed through.........dont you think??

Some good ideas here but why leave it at a "one off" event where, to be honest, you really need to make a good profit to make it worthwhile.

Why not create something like a "Margate Football Roadshow" that you can utilise on a regular basis? Let's face it, it is not just the Football Club there is it?

Of course it would be great to have M/s Southall and Yorath speaking and as they have both operated at the highest level I would absolutely agree that their contributions would be of the utmost value. We also have the Five a sides and "The Hartsdown" looking for business so why not give them a spot, even if it was just a TV screen with advertising in one part of whatever venue was used.

Don't forget MISA as well, they do a lot for the club and could have a spot somewhere to explain what they do (and try to recruit members).

The costs, such as they might be, could be shared between all the organisations taking part.

Something like this could surely be taken to various venues on a fairly regular basis.

Just a few thoughts.

Sounds like we are back to the Commercial Manager again!

Still, given the fact that the football club is only part of the operation and that any CM would also have to "commercially manage" the Fives, the Hartsdown and presumably the Medical Centre at least the whole cost won't be borne by the football club.
