I'm probably mixing up my offences here, but didn't Altrincham once get a whole 18 points for this?

Think it depends on how many points have been won by the team itself. In Mansfield's case, the illegal player played in two games, one of which they drew and one of which they won, thus equalling 4 points. In Altrincham's case, the illegal player probably played in a lot of games where they got 18 points.

There are apparently two cases going on.

 

One was heard by the Conference today which is the one resulting in the 4 point point deduction, and there is a second case to be heard by the FA regarding a player signed from Grays, who was seemingly still a Grays player, and while Grays did not want a fee, they did want a sell on clause.

 

I think that this will be heard either later this week or early next week. Mansfield had until tomorrow to reply to the charges.
