REDS KNOCKED OUT OF VASE

Frimley Green 2-1 Redhill

Saturday 4th October 2008

Redhill have been beaten by a poor Frimley Green side who knew how to play to their strengths. Redhill were the better footballing side by a mile, but their inability to pull the trigger and take their chances led them to their doom. Andrew Dalhouse scored Redhill's goal and Wes Harrison made his debut.

Match report from my opinion:

After watching Redhill the week before we knew they would come out with pretty much 4-2-4. One player in the center midfield pulling all the strings if given time. With this in mind I decided to man mark him and make the game 10 v 10.

With him not on the ball Redhill resorted to the long ball for the first half and had 2 very good chances to score but did not finish. We went 1-0 up on 30 minutes from a corner where Darren Moffet turned in a Danny Harrison header. With 5 minutes to go in the half Redhill pulled their playmaker off with an injury and their management team said "we dont want to waste you on this." That was not only disrespectful to Frimley but to the vase competition and used this in the halftime talk.

Second half we knew we would be under pressure from the start and played our wide midfielders a little deeper to help tighten the defense. The second half we absorbed a lot of pressure but with no finished product. We then went 2-0 up after a great curled free kick from Mark Peters. At this point we were then called Sunday football by their bench. (2-0 up you could of called me and my team what you wanted) Then with 22 minutes remaining they pulled one back from a deflected shot which took it past the outstanding Matt Watson. For the last 20 we defended like a team trying to hold onto a 2-1 win against a team that has a very healthy playing budget. I heard

Cheers gents. It was actually Barkley who we man marked as he likes to be on the ball all the time and without his passing they resorted to long ball. We let both wingers go one on one with Roo and Wilsher who coped easily with their threat.

In the next round ideally we would like a home tie and play someone from our level like Peacehaven or Mileoak. Would like to stay away from the big boys coming in this round and yes PB that includes Camberley. I think we are so much into the unknown it is crazy.

It seems that sides do not take Frimley seriously. If they actually bothered to do their homework they would know that Route 1 is the way to play at Frimley. Councils fault for failing to ever look after the pitch and as I understand it they will not let the FC do it either.

Hey dont count us in that statement Kroons, we lost to a team that wanted it more, not a case of not taking them seriously, they turned up, we did not.
