referee 2 - urchins 0

this was not a place or a game for the referee baiters (and fortunately biased bob was busy elsewhere smile ) or the football purist...quite probably the tamest game I have seen in the past two premier seasons with neither side creating a worthwhile shot on target...

no urgency nor tempo from either side in a howling wind due to the game being ruined by constant interruption from a hapless idiot of a referee who eventually got fed up with the lack of scoring chances and took matters into his own hands by awarding ashford a penalty for a perfectly innocent styles tackle on the edge of the box with both players facing the corner flag....not a soul in the ground could believe it...

1 down and normal business was resumed with much huffing and puffing and much arm waving and whistling from the hapless one...but it was all a bit of a dull affair really with both sides fancying their chances of progressing in next weeks fa cup ties and understandably perhaps thinking of that....not a bad tackle or scuffle in sight which was somewhat surprising really as the hapless idiot booked 8 players...yes 8...??

5 minutes to go and for his grand finale the HI gave a free kick right on the edge of our box for absolutely nothing at all and to be fair the ashford boy lashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of our net...

nowt in the game at all really and if there ever was a game decided by a referee this was it....poor penalty decisions even themselves out as we had one last week to our benefit...poor free kicks awarded are plentiful and also even themselves out and full marks for the conversion....card happy idiots in black we can do without tho' as some of those bookings may bite the players involved....

nice to see the youngsters in the urchin starting line up as colin rested a few today and they did themselves no harm with their efforts but it was just one of those games on one of those days with one of those refs....

well done the travelling urchins on a wet and windy day...well done ashford...many thanx for the hospitality and well done colin and the boyseys...

home at last next week....smile yay

PS....well done to elliot on assuming the captaincy for this game...fully deserved reward for his efforts and commitment to our club...applause

I agree with a lot of UU says with regards the ref etc but would say that we were poor today.

Did we create a clear goal scoring chance today ?

Did we fancy the poor conditions or were some of our boys going through the motions ?

Views guys......

Football is about 2 teams dealing with conditions, [****!!****] refereeing etc..

At the Lane today i witnessed some of the worst Refereeing i have seen but both teams gave there all and produced a decent footballing game.

Sounds to me that Ashford wanted the points more then your lads..

Good Luck in the Cup next Saturday..

Saying that i have to say the officials have been pretty bad so far this season.

This is an age old argument... No player/team sets out to play poorly. It just happens, no rhyme nor reason, just one of those inexplicable happenings. Even prem teams have off days/weeks - Sorry Spurs fans grin

It would be a bleedin boring game if we won everything all the time and could predict each outcome.

No one likes to lose. Everyone will be on a downer tonight. Just one win cures that feeling. Have heart fellas bisou

The FA have stated that 80% of games at our level will have Referee Assessors present this season, as was the case yesterday.

I don't know if it's just me, but I get the impression that usually "half-decent" Referees seem to turn into whistle-happy, card-waving prats when they are being assessed. It makes me wonder whether the policy is working. Perhaps the Assessors should remain incognito until after the game.

BTW - I also counted 8 cautions during the game, but the whistle-happy, card-waving prat has only listed 7 on his match report. 4 for AFCH and 3 for AT.

Also, the w-h, c-w p explained to Elliot that he awarded the penalty because the tackle was made from the side. After the game he told Hodgy that he awarded the penalty for a shirt-pull. All very strange.

Funny you should say that - The assessor was sitting just along from me...

I wonder what the assessors do about a series of wrong decisions? I think the answer is nothing. I don't want to get into a 'knock the refs' argument as they are needed and everyone will see a game differently. I just think Kel makes a good point.

ashford were better than us FACT.

But the referee was a joke, not just for decisions against us but against ashford.Even the ashford fans were moaning about him.

How the hell he managed 8 yellow cards when there was not a tackle worthy of one yellow, let alone 8.

I believe the assessor was there today which is worrying because i think it shows more than anything that the assessors are looking at their referees to punish anything with a card.Perhaps they are skint and need the money they get from the fines, wouldn't surprise me.

thats not a FACT... its just your opinion which I... and others I have discussed the game with.... disagree with...

prior to the penalty incident we were getting on top of the game and the sheer injustice of it all took the wind out of our sails...we found it hard after that to gain any tempo or momentum..

fair play to ashford for taking advantage of the refs decisions but they never had one shot on target from open play...

I feel that the game was quite even with both sides having small spells of dominance. Two factors in the game were the windy weather and the ref. The ref decided early on to impress the assesor watching, by picking up every little thing, causing him to be looking for fouls etc. With him and the wind it was never going to be "the beautiful game". I feel the write up on the game on this forum is very one sided as they often are when people watch with rose-tinted specs on. The ref was poor for both sides. I have heard that the defender took the ball first then player, that lead to the penalty. These go against you sometimes. At Carshalton we had 2 nailed on pens refused. The tackle that led to the second goal was , in my veiw , a definate foul and the free kick was a cracker . We have played 30% better in games this season an come away with nothing. So thats my 2 penerth. good luck with your cup game.

Kel - I listed seven as well - four for HFC and three for AT - but I thought I remembered that AT had four - I only record a booking if the card is waved, and I was unsure if he waved it once or twice during one of the Ashford bookings - dp you have the detail of the three AT bookings?
