MFC vs Hastings Utd - LIVE COMMENTARY ......

Take nothing from the scoreline. We deserved at least a point. No sod it, all three. We were the brighter side in the first half against the wind and in the second we had them on the back foot only for them to nick it at the death with their first attempt of the half. We will play worse and win games.

The only worrying things were that their first and third goals could have seen some better marking and we really should have made more of what we created. Then again we did have two cleared off the line, including one spectacularly from a Power chip, and their keeper made a superb save from a free kick.

The most disappointed/annoyed I have ben with a defeat so far this season but that is simply because we really really did not deserve it.

dissapointed with the result. top marks for effort, loads of chances could have had the game sewn up in the first half. stubbs had a good game. if we continue to create chances like we did today we will win lots of games;assuming we take them.

I really thought as deserved we were going to get a point today if not three.

When we lady luck be shining on us for a change.

I hope the lads do not get disheartened by this and the small minority that moaned at them for 90 minutes.

I thought Dan Youn, Kenny Pratt and Dan Stubb had yet another good game.

keep the faith

I'd say we were sooooooooooo unlucky, two shots goalbound (with 'keeper beaten)knocked off the line & Stubbsy's shot hitting the post - can't blame Margate for those three ... which (if the Gods had looked down favourably on us)would have given us a scoreline to match our control of the game.

Can't fault the team for the effort at all.

If only the police were there, they could have arrested Hastings for stealing the game!

The result was unfair but, you have to take your chances. I have called people before for criticising players BUT, I feel so incensed, I feel I have to. I have asked myself over and over since the game finished, HOW does a professed centre forward see is position to be in centre midfield( that's were he seemed to spend most of the game). And how can a professed centre forward not be willing to RUN ( come back Rob Howarth ). To me the person concerned doesn't seem to as fit as Paul Smith.

Must agree we were robbed but i'm almost sure the player i think you identify is carrying an injury that affects his instant mobility. When on the move with the ball he is dangerous.

Why we did not take more long range shots and fire every free kick direct on goal in the second halk mistifies me tho.Left the ground dissapointed with the result but very pleased with what I saw.

I think the jury is out still on Power, heavy going forward but his first and second touch IS good, however i do agree as a Centre Forward why isnt he in the box, maybe the likes of Wilson and Stubbs should be looking to provide rather than going for glory (not a dig) - maybe the likes of Pinno or Hockton may have buried half those chances, but I remember Phil Collins in his first season at MFC (was strangely like Power) and look what he did for us!!!! Trouble is have we got TIME to bring him on?

Echo those sentiments already expressed but, as MM says, we can't keep saying 'oh well, we were unlucky', we have to make our own luck. Considering the conditions, we really did do well in the first half, creating plenty and, but for a superb free-kick for their second, we would have gone in at half-time level.

As for the second half, well, we penned them in and they rarely got out of their own half. Created so many chances that we should have won the game three times over. We really do need a selfish goal-hanger sort of centre-forward, he would have scored 10 yesterday!

Robinson was poor for me yesterday, he's far too eager to get to the ball at times, and was out of position far too often. Parkinson has to come in for him when fit. Gregory, also, was poor; his first-touch was sub-standard and didn't really contribute enough. Wilson was disappointing too, especially with his distribution. How often in the second half did he overhit a set-piece in a promising position?

Interesting to see Curtis has a good long-throw on him, something I felt we didn't utilise enough. I'm a big fan, especially at this level, of just tossing the ball into the middle from a long-throw and seeing what happens and, on the few occasions we did implement this, it so nearly paid dividends on almost every occasion.

But, despite the good overall performance, we have to win games like that; Hastings will, come the end of the season, be bottom six. I fear that it really is going to be a long hard season.

From what i have seen of him, i like Power and think he leads the line well.

Maybe he should score more, but like Haworth last season is not a goal poacher.

I still reckon Pratt can be that goal poacher-and he also seems to work well for the team ethic, so given that; and given that you can only play 11 players, and if you want an out and out poacher-how do you fit that person into the team.

I must admit though, you are probably right-if only for the reason, that we only have 2 forwards-Power and pratt-so when we get injuries/suspensions-who will do the job then ?

Long hard season -yes-but we are quickly approaching being a third of the way through it !!

As much as I am a fan of Pratt, and again yesterday, he worked hard for the team, he is not selfish enough. I believe he has the ability to hit the back of the net, so it would be nice to see that, when he gets the opportunity, he has a dig rather than trying to pick out a team-mate. And, after all his good work yesterday, in finding Quain perfectly near the death, only for the latter to criminally hit straight at the keeper, maybe the best option is for Kenny to shoot on sight!

Again, you are probably right. That was what he seemed to be doing for the reerves for last 2 seasons and scoring plenty.

He is probably finding his feet at this higher level;and maybe a bit nervous of missing; but no reason now why he can't be a bit more selfish and 'have a go'.

BA maybe needs to tell him that if he misses the odd one-no-one will hang him !!

Lets not forget-he has only just made his way into the team ,and started just the 5 games; but again, from reports-seems to be getting better every game.

As above, i reckon he is our poacher-and it will score regularly.

We do need a third forward just the same to give us options

Agree with above, I like Kenny a lot, but think he does need to have a go himself, shoot on site Kenny, it will come good mate. Let the others pick up the pieces it there are any. Would rather you had a go yourself than see a chance go begging trying to find another team member to pass to. Keep up the good work.

When Roberto comes back in 2-3 weeks time we will have the right side sown up (him and Ryan). Roberto also posses a long throw so this will create another attacking option.

My favoured side for the outfield 10 will then be;

Roberto, Young, New centre Half, Kerrigan

Smith

Ryan, Wilson, Stubbs, Pratt.

New Centre Forward.

Oh I forgot to mention the new centre half and Centre forward did Iwink
