Where are we meant to find a team to play a friendly anyway? There's no guarantee we would find anyone. Add in the fact that its probably not financially viable to play a friendly after deductions and its a completely stupid idea!

Long before my time but I always thought Joe Baker played schoolboy football for Scotland, before being picked for the full England team by Alf Ramsay.

"Baker played schools and boys' football in Lanarkshire and won a Scottish schoolboys' cap before joining the Edinburgh club, Hibernian, where he flourished. In his first season he scored all four goals in a 4-3 win in the Scottish Cup against local rivals, Hearts, and 159 goals in four years."

"He made his debut for England on November 18 1959, and scored one of their two goals in an unconvincing 2-1 win at Wembley against Northern Ireland, keeping his place for the rest of the season; against Scotland at Hampden and on tour against Yugoslavia, Spain and Hungary, though he did not score again."

Well sit down and I will explain it all to you ( gosh you and your cohorts lack of football knowledge is unbelievable )
See when we got knocked out of the cup, so did many other teams, also some teams are not playing today because their league opponents are playing in the F.A. Trophy. So there are quite a few teams without games who would I expect relish a friendly to keep their good form going.
Why is it a stupid idea when many many teams over the years have done and still do play friendlies when a spare weekend appears.Slough themselves have done it many times in the past-it just makes good sense ( sorry I forgot you have no idea what that is )Any how if you finally grasp the points, can you explain them to Nathan, Roger and the countless anons who dont get it either-thanking you.

Wiz and Reuters - I played for Liverpool in the 80's, then went to Lincoln in the late years of my career so I know more about football than any of you!!

It's easy to make stuff up on here and claim to be this and that. Just cos you have done this or that does not mean that you know more than any one else or qualify you to be such an arrogant and ignorant person that thinks that they are alwsys right!

Why are neither of you managers if it's that easy?

What has that got to do with anything? Its not an FA Cup day today. Please explain it again, but preferably accurately this time.

Anon, what exactly is your problem with the management?

This thread is a load of rubbish, which is not surprising given the number of anonymous posts.

The bottom line is that management considered it best not to play a game today. I happen to agree as it will give time for players to recover from knocks. Anyway, who's to say there won't be a behind-closed-doors friendly in the week?
