FA CUP SUTTON UNITED V BILLERICAY TOWN 27-09-08

Recommended Posts

First half hour when we passed the ball, we played well and should have been leading, but if you don't take your chances it generally costs. Last 10 of the first half they got back into it and that set the tone for the rest of the match. Second half we offered little but I think that was more down to the fact that they are a better side than us. Disappointing to go out early, but we were well beaten in the end, the players give it their best shot so no complaints.

I echo the above, we had our chances in the first half. They were the better side on the day.

I've just had a cover to cover read of the program, I'll blog about it more later, but here's a snippet from one of the articles.

Malcolm Hawker wrote about Grays:

"Not so long ago when we played them regularly in the Ryman League, it was a struggling little club with a dump of ground in a horrible part of Essex"

He goes on to say "how amazed he is that businessmen would want to invest in Grays", and how he finds it incredible that Sutton have not gained the same kind of investment.

Who knows, maybe they will get drawn together in the cup.

Couple of comments on that:

Firstly Mr. Hawker is deluding himself something chronic if he thinks somebody isn't putting money into Sutton at the present. The likes of Nicholls and Palmer don't play for nowt.

Secondly the thing Grays do very well is get players into the pro game - if you can regularly pick up 6 figure fees for the likes of Eastwood, Oli and Mclean, plus sell-on fees etc then it makes life a hell of a lot easier.

Thirdly have you seen the size of the committee at Sutton? Businessmen avoid clubs with loads of "Blazers" like the plague. They even have a Wine Committee ffs.

we all have our ways of dealing with things at our clubs and ways of making the paperwork work as it were.....we take the pi55 out of each other and we aspire to greatness and do what we can to raise as much money as we can to succeed...for all of our differences that will never change...

sutton however are a club with full on double standards and paramount skills in hypocricy....they pay 2 grand a week in wages...thats official...they got relegated in record minus figures last season on that figure...they were most humble...grin

but hey ho....they now this season look down their noses at lesser souls from their shitehole in GGL and the fans still think they are a conference club...

as for the 8 grand a week wage bill?.....well...the manager pays the rest.....eastleigh money is in abundance..grin

If anyone is still a bit down after Saturday you can always pop over to itvlocal.com/facup and see Chelmo's comedy own goal against Bury Town. They're even good enough to do it quite early so you don't have to watch the whole thing.

I haven't been able to locate our "highlights" yet. I'm sure Loco will point me in the right direction.
