Is there much of a difference between Prem & D1 ?

Recommended Posts

I agree NLN, on a one off game they can be as good as Prem sides but it's the consistancy thing, it has taken us into our 3rd season and we do not have the consistancy in our performances to stay as a top ten team.

Teffers hit the nail on the head - its all down to consistancy. I reckon that SL and my lot could hold their own in the prem, after all we have have beaten Guildford & Bookham, and came close against Epsom & Molesey but then lost the next two league games against inferior opposition. Lets remember, Frimley were demoted and not relegated.

I remember thrashing Walton Casuals the year they won the prem. Those were the days!

Ok here we go.

I believe their is not so much a gulf in ability but a large gap in professionalism and commitment.

Division 1 teams will always up there games to play the premiership teams because it is a scalp they can be proud of. To compete in the Prem they would have to show this week in week out which I do not believe they can do. I hate to use them as an example but look at Hartley Whitney, they were an excellant side in Division 1 league last year and are currently struggling in the Prem. is this down to players ability, i would say no. It is down to trying to get each player to believe that every game is a cup final.

TC , would you say MVSCR are inferior opposition?

New to the league, lost 2-8 to Villa but 2nd in league.

You guys beat Dorking and were rightly chuffed, thinking Dorking would finish near top.

Lose to MVSCR and you feel the worlds ended.

I think the consistency is in the head, its a perception.

It took Bookham a while to get to grips with it mentally as much as anything,

to accept that as a club and a team they were "allowed" to play against Dorking Wembley Chertsey etc.

I know Dorking think they should finish top three at least easily, and feel sides come to Meadowbank and its their cup final. Wrong attitude, its probably worse to think you're too good than not good enough.

The main traits are consistency, fitness and mental attitude which seperates the various divsions in the CCL, SSML, Essex Senior Leagues and a number of others which have Step 5,6, 7 teams under their umbrella.

I have seen plenty of matches this year where the lower Step team have dominated the higher Step team, some have won, some have lost but on any given day anyone can get a result. I think it is very difficult when a team gets relegated from the Step 5 division, very few if any will make it straight back up, most will take 2 seasons to get back to the top table. For other teams they make be stuck in their Div 1 (Step 6) for some time.

Chairman, Managers, Players also come and go, clubs with a bit of stability each in year out will always tend to do well.

Compared to the potential we have, yes I would say MV SCR are inferior. We were not at the races that day and colapsed in the second half and SCR deserved their win.

I said that at the beginning of the season to our lads that we will not get beaten this season. We will beat ourselves and that was the proof in the pudding with the games we have lost this season.

Only one side beat us last year and that was away at Westfield. They took us apart and we could not get near them and were lucky to come away with a 2 - 0 defeat.

Well the only thing I can say is that we played Crescent yesterday in the cup,I know they are struggling but we beat them 4-0 and it could of been alot more I dont think they got in our box so over all I think the prem is a lot better standard.
