Harlow Council built houses on their running track and gave the football club better facilities! What does Enfield Council do build houses on the football pitch and improve the running track and by doing so give the other potential tenants worse facilities? Show some balls Mr Rye stand up and be counted like you said you would.

As I say, the track is pne thing, but the terms and conditions of our use of the stadium are of more concern. obviously our Board will be well aware of this.

The track at Hornchurch is only 6 lanes wide and the stands are already in place with a bar at one end of the 'stadium'.

The point was that a decent atmosphere can be created at a ground with a running track, and it the fans, not the stadium per se, that create the atmosphere. Some examples closer to home might be Sutton United, Hornchurch, and Ilford on the night we won 7-0 there.

Don't know what QE2 looks like but I've found that the acoustics of a ground have a lot to do with the atmosphere.

Get a half decent crowd into a ground with good acoustics and the atmosphere is great...at the same time a small crowd in such a ground can sound cavernous and quite depressing.

I've been to games with reasonably big crowds at acoustically poor venues and the atmosphere has been ordinary to say the least.

Just returned from golfing trip with mates to Young..a course modelled on the Himalayas...I was playing okay until my Sherpa died on the ascent to the 8th.

Surely it is time to realise that it is better to have your own ground with its own income streams in the right place! If it comes with a running track then so be it - it seems a small price to pay. Dave has already talked about roll on roll off terracing and that is the right way to approach this. All the negativity on here just sends out the wrong message and gives ammunition to those who are against us!

The board get an awful amount of stick on here and it has been said before - if you think you can do a better job.....

I know we have had our problems with the Council but at least this is a positive move. Frankly, it is a damn site more than I expected!

Jim, I dont think anybody supporting ETFC would not welcome a move under any circumstances, I believe it is just the original proposal seems a lot further away from what it seems that we will actually end up with, I like others probaly envisaged, if the outcome of the Oct 8th meeting was successful of course, a freshly developed football only stadium, not Old Trafford or The Emirates but some seats, covered terracing, turnstiles, burger bar, shop etc nothing grand but a place to develop as time goes on that we could call our own, what it appears we are getting is a running track & a listed building with a lick of paint!

Yes it is very welcome just not what was anticipated.

 

Also for the record I personally have never slated any member of the board & never will, I couldn't & quite honestly wouldn't want to, do what they do, giving up their free time & working relentlessly over the past seven years is something we should all applaud, those however who are, they believe more specialised & better qualified indeed let them take a step forward.

Cabinet report for the future of the stadium is on the Council's web site. I tried to put a link on here to it but failed. No dobt there is an easy way to do it.

 

Recommendation.

 

That Cabinet approves:

i. the restoration of the Queen Elizabeth II stadium to include a new athletics

track and a community football stadium to Ryman Premier League standards

including a football pitch inside the athletics track.

 

ii. that the Council spends

Interesting stuff...

 

During the mid-80s, the decision was taken to remove the running track and bring the perimeter fence closer to the pitch. This created the poor sightlines seen today, with spectators in the Stand and covered areas being far from the pitch and unable to see the near touchline. Minor but expensive improvements to the ground followed in the 90s (a concrete path around the pitch thus doing away with the oval running track, pitch maintenance and changes to the changing rooms) which were paid for by the Committee, not the then-leaseholder, causing them all to resign in 1996.

Its all encouraging andy, but i'll wait for the clubs official statement. I dont doubt this statement, but would prefer it once the Chairman has the deal in the hand and him telling us so.
