Billericay 1 Sutton 0

A first half howler by the Sutton keeper, kicking the ball into Joe ,who then crossed to Billy for his regulation goal. The second half we were under siege with Cole and Duncan standing firm in the middle of our defense. Joe succeeded in 'earning' a penalty and then proceeded to miss it. The introduction of Heffer,Henry and BWG improved our possession, particularly Bradley, and we hung on for a win. I worry about Saturday! Gate 342 I think.

I thought it was an even game. Both sides played some good football and caused troubles in both goal mouths. For some reason nicholls insisted in kicking the ball at flacky which they paid the price for with bricknell again adding to his goal tally.

I thought they had most of the posession in the second half.. causing trouble towards then end of the game but our defence stayed solid and we won along with keeping a clean sheet.

Its good to see heffer back again we looked a bit more solid. Bradley seemed a bit off the pace but hes just returning from injury so he should be goood after a few games. Duncan had another good game next to tim cole and probably my MOTM.

Also good to see dormer back in full training, any news on when he will be played/will be put on the bench in the upcoming games?

A tough one really. Sutton are a good side but they didn't really create anything up front. That says volumes for our defence.

The goal was down to Nicholls being a "pillock" (good word Simon). It was a difficult win but the management played it well by changing the game by bringing on Henry a BWG and we looked better. Heffer had a decent game in the middle as well. I would agree that our defence was solid and that Tim Cole was my MOM.

A clean sheet and 3 points...What more do we want? Can't ask for anymore than that at the end of the day.

I agree nice to see the gate improve and for a Tuesday night game not to bad i suppose.

Not sure of the reason for Nicholls kicking the ball at Joe Flack but hey carry on gezzer same again on Saturday please.

Nice to see our back four staying solid for the whole of the game.

I know a lot of people were out to watch Billy but i thought Joe Flack played a great game. What passion he has for this team.

Quote of the night for me was " Well he's been well Dunked" Duncan had a good game (imo)

I think Paul Shave is out on Saturday so having been my player of the season so far i hope he won't be missed to much.

Well done the Blues, well deserved win.

Fantastic application by all our guys to win a match where we were probably second best. Very impressed with Marron again and I thought Duncan was MOTM.

Funny how we all see things differently, I thought Joe Flack had a fairly average game and we looked much better after the changes.

Their numbers 10 and 11 gave us a hard time, lets hope we can keep them under control again on Saturday. Come on you Blues !!!!

I've just been on their forum...something I don't usually do but have done twice this week. They say the goal was scored in controvesial circumstances as it was in Nicholls hands when he kicked it. I thought he grounded the ball to kick? True Flack "cut the angles" but he was no more than a couple of yards from the keeper...so IMO, not a problem.

Still, as you say, we see things differently. Of Flackie, I thought he looked sharper but with us having to clear our lines for a fair percentage of the second half, he wasn't getting the service. Putting BWG and Henry, gave us more pace to run the ball down.

For Saturday, I would go...

Worster (in the event that Jack is still not well)

Marron (who is doing very nicely, thank you), Duncan, Cole, Dumas

Ferguson, Hunter, Heffer, Wareham

Flack, Bricknall

Subs: BWG, Henry, Dormer (if fit), Chatting, West

If we're forced to "clear our lines" again, West has got to play a part. I've been impressed with him up front for the reserves and when he has pitched up for the first team (pre season...?) as he plays the "Burbridge" role well. Wins his headers and is strong. He also has a good touch

First half was awful from both sides, only interuppted by Nichols' clanger (Ha Ha!). Second half saw an improvement with Sutton having the better of it, although we created the clear cut opportunities, and they looked marginally the better side but superb displays from Big Dunc and Cole nullified most things they threw at us. Good timely substitutions, with BWG and Henry both looking lively. Another poor attendance, worst league figure of the season and yes, before Loco slates us, it was very subdued, as it has been all season.

I was standing right behind the goal and can tell you there was nothing wrong with Billy's goal. Flacky initially was standing in front of Nicholls trying to make it difficult for him to take a clean goal kick, Nicholls then started waving his arms trying to get something from the ref, at the same time Flacky gave up and started to slowly walk back to the half way line. Nicholls being the arrogant sh*t that he is then decided to boot the ball straight at Flacky. My understanding of the rules is that for it to be a 'foul' the attacker must motion towards the ball when the keeper is taking the goal kick.

Anyway, still not perfect but a good 3 points, cheers Nicholls.

Hard fought victory. Shocking error from the keeper for the goal. Other than that the first half was pretty quiet. Second half was backs to the wall but there was some excellent defending. The subs worked well as it gave us more presence in the middle, something thats been a bit lacking at times this season.

The penalty was pretty soft with the ref missing the more obvious one about five minutes later.

Good result though, clean sheet. Something to build on.

I was delighted with the result, a scrappy 1-0, just what the doctor ordered.

We were rewarded for the high work rate which was carried over from Saturday. That is the kind of tempo wee need every game if we are to move up.

I hope confidence will grow now, because that will enable us to shorten passes and start to open up the opposition. As I have said before, I believe we have the strongest squad since my involvement with the club, only time will tell if I'm right or wrong.

What we mustn't do is to get complacent. One win is just One win, there is a very long way to go yet.

Well done Lads. applause2

Very welcome 3 points which imo was more of a very hardworking team effort. The defence looked much more solid and if Cole can stay fit his organisation skills and experience will be focal.

But like i say, this was much more of the "team spirit" that achieved those points so cannot fault that.

Good effort lads.

Top effort by everyone last night, and they deserved the 3 point reward.

Defence looked good. A hard battle in mid-field with Sutton tackling fast & hard. But we made our fair share of chances from open play.

It will be tough at there place on Saturday. A replay Tuesday night would be a good result, IMO.

Yep - echo all that - a good effort rewarded by 3 points!

I did get a photo of the goal, and the Flack vs Goalie moment, but my camera isn't good enough to capture fast action under floodlights so it's pretty blurred. It will be included on the website tho just as a memorable moment of the game. I'm not gonna distract players with a powerful flash like the Sutton photographer did behind our goal! I'm saving up for a better camera, so that I can capture moments like that in the future!

More of the same Saturday! (goals, not blurred photos!)

A very scrappy game that was played at 100 miles an hour with the only real quality football coming from us in the last 15 minutes of the 1st half. Sutton put us under a lot of pressure in the 2nd half and on balance of play maybe deserved a draw. Despite having most of the ball I don

Just been reading the Sutton forum (link in Gazza's post above). I think they're pretty fair in their summing up. Interesting that there's much praise for our defence, & that they also are wary of Saturdays game.

A good result and welcome 3 points, I was pleased with our defence, it was a hard battle and the team pulled through, it seemed the game was mostly played in our half with Sutton having the greater possession, but we had some good breaking plays and created chances. We need to work on our ball retention and more accurate passing. Saturday will be a difficult game and they will be fired up after last night.
