Two young sides battled it out in an entertaining game at Hartsdown, with Margate coming away with their first league win of the campagin.

As early as the 4th minute Folkestone showed their potential when a corner by Joshua Vincent curled in towards goal and Alex Krunic tipped it over the bar. The speedy Masade Ebeneezor then went on a mazy run from 40 yards out and was only bought to an end when two defenders muscled him away in the area just as he looked to shoot. Dan Gonzalez then hit a lovely shot, despite being held, but Zach Andrews flung himself to his left to tip it around the post. From the corner Elliott Payne swung the ball in and it caught the crossbar but from the ensuing scramble, Margate were unable to put the ball in the net. Then in the 16th minute Payne hit a terrible backpass and it was seized on by Dan Smith who easily beat Krunic to put Folkestone in front.

Margate then made inroads down the left flank with a ball played out of defence by Darryn Vanhinsberg to Payne who pushed it down line to Gonzalez who whipped in a cross to Ebeneezor whose shot was blocked. Ryan Harker then had a shot which went over the bar from 25 yards. In the 30th minute Folkestone nearly extended their lead when Josh Burchell put over a dangerous cross and Luke Wheatley was lucky to see his defensive header hit the post and go out for a corner. In the 38th minute Payne put over another dangerous croos which found Wheatley who flicked the ball towards goal but saw it cleared.

Margate came out with an extra spring in their steps for the second half and another run by Ebeneezor resulted him finding Sam Cliff but his shot was well saved by Andrews. Then Margate equalised in the 55th minute when a corner by Payne was allowed to run across the 12 yard box and Nick Treadwell managed to poke it home. Two minutes later they took the lead when Sam Cliff went ona great run into the area and coolly slotted the ball past Andrews.Margate then started to take control for the rest of the game Vanhinsberg out a deep cross into the far post to find Cliff running in but his shot found the side netting.

Cliff then became provider when his cross found Ebeneezor but his shot went wide of the left post. The same pair then nearly got another goal when Ebeneezor crossed and was met well by Cliff, who was by now causing the Folkestone defence lots of problems, but his shot was well blocked by Andrews. Cliff then, with his back to goal turned on the ball and hit a shot which just went over the bar. Ebeneezor then went on another run and pushed the ball back to Payne on edge of the area who saw his shot flash wide of the right post. Margate then suffered an injury scare when Cliff was clumsily challenged and was helped off the pitch after a lengthy delay to be replaced by Joe Taylor with a few minutes left. However Margate had no scares on their goal and deserved to be worthy winners.
