Taken from the NLP in case you haven't managed to get hold of one. Pity WE couldn't be told this.

Margate Director Keith Piper has played down reports that the club is about to go under despite recieving a winding up order this week.

The Gate-who have made a poor start to their Premier season-have been served papers by HM Revenue & Customs over unpaid fees.

Piper insists the club had arranged for the payments to be made by a development partner when work was due to begin on upgrading Hartsdown Park next January.

The development work has now been postponed until March next year, prompting the taxmen to demand their money immediately.

"We are confident the future of the club will be secure" said Piper.

"The work will start on developing the ground in March rather than January & that has made them a bit jumpy".

"We have a couple of avenues to explore to find the money in the meantime & the club Directors will be meeting this week to discuss these".

"I'm not prepared to discuss what we have in the pipeline or how much we owe but I'm confident that the situation will be resolved this week & the money can be paid off".

Budget

Piper says "The playing budget will not be affected at all".

"I can understand why the supporters are getting a bit panicky. There are very serious implications attached to these winding up orders".

"But there are two or three avenues available to explore & I'm convinced we will pull through".

The question is Michael. If we CAN find this money will the taxmen gives us another chance to pay. That's more of a worry to me.

I realise that they are mainly only concerned with getting their money but even they have limits to what they have put up with.

Lets hope we haven't pushed them to those limits.

There's a thin line we shouldn't be crossing & I think we are on that line right now.Lets hope we get another chance & if we do then we must not get into this position ever again otherwise, if not now, then next time it certainly WILL be curtains for all of us.

Agree Cookie you can only be let off so many times . I don`t know how it all works regards to paying taxes as i have never owned a company but you would think that this would be on top or at least near the very top of your list of things to do . Its a pity it can`t be paid like most of us are . You get your wages paid to you and the tax man has already taken most of it but at least your up to date anyway im not worried just yet and hope not to be in the future . Up the Gate .

sorry to stick my nose in but I can tell you when people get wages the taxman hasn't always been paid, even though your slip shows deductions. The company you work for have a responsibility to keep paye records and then pay the taxman.

The reason it is not at the top of a lot of companies payment priorities is the revenue isnt a supplier like the electric board or brewery who can withhold future supplies, the revenue isnt an employee who might not work if he doesnt get paid.

If a company is in trouble with cash flow or solvency the taxman is usually the last to get paid.

If a company delays paying the taxman when it is turning over a lot of money and paying high wages, it finds it very hard to pay the tax if the turnover reduces.

General comment, all that, I know nothing of your clubs finances.

good luck.

I find it interesting that the 'bad news 'as posted last week by the club got 77 replies ,whereas this potentially better news has just 7 replies !!

Maybe its because KP''better news statement is 'unofficial' in the NLP.

Maybe its because no-one believes the 'good news'.

At the moment though, i have to keep believing that 'it'll all be ok in the end'.

Others understandlbly think otherwise

It doesn't surprise me at all! The first game your lot won a game this season was the quietest time on your forum.
