Well, that was snatched. I'd say we deserved the win, but not by a lot... Chennels definitely deserved the goal, however.

 

My review:

 

Slightly odd formation: Standard defence (Fagan, Butler, Coops, Parsons) but Willow, Coyne, Seedel & Chandiram in midfield, Wallo & Chenns up front.

 

First ~35 minutes we were nowhere, one shot over the bar and nearly all the rest of the play was in our half. I don't think our goal was really threatened, Rob was busy catching crosses/corners but I don't recall him having to stop many actual shots. OK, he was at the far end and we were gazing into the sun, but we coped. However it really didn't look good for us, Joe couldn't get through on the left and we didn't have a right wing as such.

 

We started waking up before half-time and then had about 50 minutes where we controlled the game more. Still barely looked like scoring, though, Ben (who came on for Wallo after about 55 mins, after he went off with what looked like a strain/pull) had about our only shot on target and it wasn't forceful, Seeds, Coyne and Willow all tried and Chenns was out of luck also.

Finally in stoppage time we were pressing forward yet again, had a corner, and after about 8 other players had a touch Chenns turned the ball and got a weak shot to the far end from the goalie, their defender failed to clear from inside the net and job done! Then just a few nervous minutes and we got the points...

 

I don't think Willow is best on the right wing - I'd keep Ben there, where his pace can really count, Willow in the centre midfield since he tended to drift in anyway and he's so good there shaping the game, and keep Chenns and Seeds up front (so long as Seeds is match-fit) and bring Wallace on as a sub when one tires. As it was we didn't really use our right-side attack properly until Ben came in, and I think we wasted an advantage there.

But Fagan and Parsons were very active on the wings, I didn't really notice the fullbacks so the central defence must have been solid, and Coyney certainly put himself about a lot in midfield.

 

I was resigned to a well-fought draw, but the last-gasp win made it all worthwhile

Ah, but that wouldn't have conveyed the overwhelming sense of "Phew, that was close"...

Good game, kept us on edge! Looked solid and I think Seeds looked more like a match fit player, certainly strong in the midfield position! Benny P certianly brought a positive change to the game no wonder he has a number of awards under his belt!

 

Was good to see a new kit on show (finaly) even if it isn't to everyone's taste. Hopefully we'll be able to see the new home strip this Saturday against Cinderford. Taking on the league's second place it should be a game to fight for. I for one am looking forward to it!

 

Sorry I never made it for the shin dig for Mike leaving and Carl's birthday. I'm sure a pint or two or three shall be had on Saturday. Will Mike be making the trip from the far east (aka Kent)?

Just to add the Didcot fans on their forum rated Coyney and Willow rather a lot. Even suggested their own side should sign them!

Back to the football

 

I thought that was one of our best performances in a while. Whilst i'm not sure why Willo played on the wing he is just a class act and did well. I thought if anyside should of won it it was us. I thought the defence was great and Rob is turning out to be a good keeper for us.

 

A win against Didcot whilst knowing we still can do better is very positive. Roll on Saturday!!
