A brief summary of today

What a win! Couldn't have asked for more from the lads today, every player gave it everything they had.

Just a quick run-through of the team and how they all played their part today :

Lee Butcher : A solid start for the young keeper, came off his line and claimed everything he needed to. Very tidy.

Dan Kerrigan : A very impressive debut, looked comfortable in everything he did, surprisingly good in the air for a small lad, strong in the tackle and good distribution.

Ryan Peters : Back in his right back position, and looking better for it, made a couple of cruicial interventions at the back.

Dan Young : A very good performance again from Dan, as we have come to expect. Great in the air and very alert all game.

Jack Parkinson : Moved into a centre back role today. He had a superb game, good marking and decent distribution, very impressive for a young lad. His height will always do him favours playing at centre back.

James Gregory : Impressed with Gregs' workrate today, never stopped chasing. Showed he can create chances today, is also very good in the air.

Dan Stubbs : The usual tenacious performance from Dan, he ran his socks off out wide and tracked back very well.

Wayne Wilson : Not Wayne's best game today, but you certainly couldn't fault his effort. Closed the ball down well in midfield and looked a danger with the ball at his feet.

Paul Smith : Its no coincidence that we seem to play better when Smudge is on the pitch. He wins that crucial 2nd ball in he midfield and is very strong in the tackle. Superb.

Kenny Pratt : This lad just never stops running! Could have easily had a few goals for himself. Never fails to impress me, a constant threat to the Ashford defense.

Mike Power : Today he showed why he scored all those goals for Cray. Amazing skills for a big bloke, won loads of headers, took his goal very well and was extremely unlucky to see a dripping drive from 25 yards smack against the crossbar. My man of the match. Well Done Mike!

Just a quick comment on the subs that came on.

Hickman replaced Smudger and did ok, got booked for a mistimed challenge.

Morris came on for Gregs and closed down well, helping us run down the clock.

All in all, I came away from the ground today damn proud of the lads. Fully deserved 3 points.

I trust the supporters and fans had plenty of mutual appreciation at the end of the game.
