Slough Town 3-2 Cirencester Town

Thank you for the half-time break.

First half we were absolutely dreadful. Knocking long passes, nowhere near second-balls and they would have been two or three up easily. Allsop was causing us all kinds of problems in the air.

Second-half we played a lot, lot better. Great last goal as well, super ball in by Johnny Gray and a great header from Matt Platt.

Thought Yash did really well on his debut and took his goal really well, but MOM for me was Ryan Fenton. Thought he was awesome today.

Draw was probably a fair result, but who cares we deserve some luck!

Also good news is that word in the terraces is DJ is staying and does not want to go to Farnborough, which is great news.

its tiring watching slough at times aint it!! lol

first 20 minutes or so i was convinced we were heading for a 3 or 4-0 loss

their first i thought Riddel was at fault for not even tryin to mark either of the 2 standing alone at the back post

we then got the goal from Yash Romeo who i thought was excellent throughout his 60 or 70 odd minutes working really hard to get crosses in and also tracking back

a few chances were wasted by ourselves after dwelling on the ball and defensively we were always in trouble first half. yet another poor goal conceded to go in 2-1 down at ht

second half we didnt start massively well but we slowly took control. defensively we started restricting them and DJ superbly converted after Fentons perhaps hopeful long ball beat their tiny captain centre back

how on earth #6 wasnt sent off for the elbow on Harper i do not know. Harper was busted open and rightly furious. yeah Gumbs prob shouldnt have got involved but we all know what he is like and he had a point

the winning goal was worthy of winning any game. platts header flew right into the corner. keeper stood no chance

roy was very unfairly given a 2nd yellow for a basic foul but we held on without too much trouble other than Ridds backheeling off the line at one point

all in all a fantastic battling recovery performance which looked so unlikely at one point

you could see how much it meant to the players too and Cirencester looked stunned at the end

Agreed with the above comments. Firstly Pritchard was given a harsh yellow in the first half, then Gumbs' second yellow was equally harsh. There was no malice in the foul, it was just a clumsy challenge.

However the challenge on Harper looked bad in my opinion, it seems strange that the ref was keen to give Slough soft yellow cards yet only gave a yellow for the foul on Harper.

Romeo had a great debut, good to see DJ score at home, and a worthy winner from Platt.

Question - when was the last time we had more points than games played?

Funny old game. Poor first half with the whole team, apart from Romeo, looking knackered, with no great change at the start of the second half, however as time went on we became stronger, and Cirencester lost their confidence. Lots of incidents, with Harper clearly being clumsily elbowed (I think he was off to hospital for stiches), and Gumbs being sent off (2nd yellow) for what I'm doubtful was a foul, though those at the side may have had a better view. Missed chances at either end, but we defended well to get the result. Maybe we should play with ten men every week as it seems to work for us.

Firstly, have to agree, Ryan Fenton was immense today and easily mom and along with Romeo, who ran his b#llocks off and scored an excellent goal and Roy Gumbs were the only players who turned up in the first half.

To say Cirencester should have been 3 or 4-1 up in the first half is probably doing them an injustice. They were all over us and with a bit of luck could have scored 5 or 6 we were that poor.

But with true grit and determination we clawed our way back in the second half and score two excellent goals from DJ and Platty. Despite him carrying a slight injury I think the introduction of the Bubster was a master stroke and seemed to give all the players a bit more confidence to lift their game.

I think we got out of jail today but considering we had so many players missing we deserved any luck that was going.

Personally, when every player is available I don't think we can play with 3 up front and will have to revert to a 4-4-2 formation. If so, who in everyones opionion will be the two strikers?

Sounds like an excellent result, things are progressing well it seems recently!

Couldn't make the game because I went to the Help for Heroes charity rugby match at Twickenham, but HR was updating me on the game and I was very pleased to hear that we had come from behind to win.

Good to hear that DJ scored at home, hopefully the word is true and he will stay with us.

Andover next, come on the Rebels!

Today (20/09/08) played 6 points 8

Previous seasons to get to or pass 8 points:

07/08 27/10/07 11 games

06/07 17/10/06 12 games

05/06 17/09/05 7 games

Continued improvement is happening and this is now showing in the league position.

First half was so bad, we ended up talking the banking crisis and credit crunch in the stands. Roy Gumbs is a legend and was outstanding at the back and his sending off was harsh- especially as one of their defenders took out Dean Harper and just got a yellow.

Second half we were transformed, our attacking play was excellent.

Romeo looks a great signing and we look like we can score everytime we go forward.

A win against Thatcham and we will be in touching distances of the play-off places!!!

What a difference a half-time orange makes eh? Shocking first half. No doubt about that. Whether Sweets used a hairdryer-style bollocking or just gave them some weird mineral drink at half time, whatever it was, it worked.

Poor Dean had claret pouring from his head when I saw him being driven off (like Ted, I presume it was to hospital. Gumbs' sending off was ridiculous, but then again the ref made several bad decisions against us all the way through the game.

Agree that Yash, Fenton and DJ had good games today, but believe Platt deserves plaudits for running his [****!!****] off again - particularly in the second half.

On a side note, it was nice to see a certain Mr Dennison around the ground again... and without a team to play for, according to him.

Well, that certainly wasn't pretty but to win a match that we really should have lost shows things have improved on last season.

I disagree that Gumbs sending off was ridiculous. The challenge that got him his second yellow was a typical forwards tackle, tripped up their player and deserved a card. What was silly was for Roy to have picked up a yellow off the back off the Harper incident. I only hope Roy's reaction to the referee will not cause him or the club any further problems.

Romeo looks a good signing for us and took his goal well. Once everybody is back and fit, it'll be interesting to see who Sweets puts out as his first XI

I thought the behaviour of some of our club officers was very unprofessional. Even if you think the ref had a bad game the idea that you can shout to the ref that the assessor was not pleased is pathetic and humiliating for the official concerned, what about respect(sic).

The behaviour of some of our fans was deplorable too not a good example at all.

the fact that as fans we see incidents differently and disagree shows that being a referee isnt easy, i am Gumbs no 1 fan but his stupidity could have cost us the match, i know he is passionate but he needs to control his temper.

The Harper incident wasnt deserving of a red card Harper clearly leant back when going up for a challenge, no malice from the cirencester player just a bit clumsy,a yellow card was correct.

At the end of the day its only a game not life and death.
