St Franic Rangers 4 -3 Westfield

Honestly going into the game after seeing how well sussex teams are doing this season and facing one of the top 2 i was fearing the worst. As we all know though footballs a funny game and we absolutely battered them first half yet came off 1 down. They scored at the start of the seconf half but we got 2 quick goals and really should have killed off and won the game. 2-2 so to extra time and an error let them back in. we thought we had equalised just before extra time half time but for some reason unknown to even their bench the lino saw a mystery handball to the astonishment of everyone in the ground. 2nd period and we were awarded a penalty - well we thought we were until the ref decided it was outside the box despite our bloke being bundled over at least 5 yards inside. they scored a breakwaway 4th and we got one more back. gutted overall but a fantastic performance and we did CCL1 proud.

Deal 0-3 Cobham

Good win for our lot after what would have been a long trip to Kent. Wasn't able to attend but apparently we scored 2 headers from corners just before and after halftime, then got a break-away 3rd near the end.

Good result against a team who took Chertsey to a replay in the FA Cup, lets hope we can now take some of that form into the league!!

Dorking exited the FA Vase on Saturday following an entertaining encounter in the late summer sunshine at Meadowbank, Chicks counting themselves unlucky to have been beaten in extra time against Selsey after probably having done enough to have progressed in ordinary time.

Selsey were expected to prove tough opposition, the high flying Sussex Division 1 side being unbeaten this season save for an FA Cup defeat. And the omens did not look good for Dorking when 4 key players reported late for the game after their car broke down on the way to the match, leading scorer Dan Bennett, Aaron Leathingy, Dan Lawrence and Lester Boniface being the players named on the bench after their late arrival.

Dorking were already without keeper Dan Coote, currently serving a ban after his sending off in the 2-2 FA Cup draw at Ryman League Chatham Town, and skipper Roy Newman who underwent an operation in the week on his fractured jaw suffered in a recent league game. Manager Tony Webb had signed keeper Michael Nicholas on loan from Chipstead to cover for Coote and the injured Chris Roberts, while veteran defender Warren Burton returned to the starting line up at centre back in place of Newman, Jesse Davis and James White getting their chance in midfield following the late arrival of the four players.

For the first 25 minutes, it was all Dorking as Selsey looked surprisingly vulnerable at the back. Dorking scored early following a crisp shot from Simon Cassidy in the 10th minute, but really should have extended their lead in this period as Selsey seemed unable to stem the Dorking tide. Phil Page went close twice, Cassidy nearly added to his earlier strike and Victor Donker could have also netted as Selsey desperately hung on.

As so often happens in football, if you fail to take your chances you get punished, and Selsey scored on 28 minutes with a rare foray into the Dorking half, Brown scoring from 10 yards as Chicks failed to clear. The remainder of the half was a far more even affair, and as the half time whistle approached, it was Dorking who looked more in need of half time instruction than their Sussex visitors, a turn up considering Chicks total dominance in the opening period of the game.

Whatever Tony Webb said at half time though paid instant dividends, Phil Page surging up the Selsey right and hammering home at the keepers near post to put Dorking ahead again in the 46th minute. Dorking once more looked on top, but yet again could not hold their lead, this time Selsey's equaliser having more than a touch of good fortune as a couple of ricochets found Woolf unmarked in the 6 yard box, his reflex header giving Nicholas no chance.

The game then ebbed and flows until a trully momentous strike gave Selsey the lead for the first time in the match, the ball being half cleared from a Selsey attack only to fall to Dobbs just outside the penalty area, his rising thunderbolt of a strike almost breaking the net to give Selsey the lead.

Chicks came again, PAge and Cassidy going close, subs Dan Lawrence, Dan Bennett, and Lester Boniface being thrown into the mix by Webb, but despite several close shaves, particularly from a one on one from Phil Page and some long range strikes from Dan Clayton, Selsey looked like hanging on to their slightly fortuitous lead on the balance of play. With the game being excellently refereed by Mr Sotmirin, the match entered injury time and Chicks won a corner. Everyone came up for the corner, and in the resulting goalmouth scramble, Dan Bennett notched his 11th goal of the season from close range to give Chicks a last gasp equaliser, the whislte going instantly after the restart.

Into extra time and the game could really have gone either way, the first to score always being the likely winner, and it was Selsey who grabbed their all important 4th goal, just 2 minutes before the half way mark in extra time as Moody once more put Selsey's noses back in front

With both sides tiring, Selsey made sure of a visit to Guildford City in teh next round with a late fifth goal.

All in all, an entralling afternoon of football, played at great pace and with passion from both sides, and given the number of influential players missing, Dorking can hold their heads up high as they now seek to concentrate on their league campaign. Before a long overdue league game though, Dorking face another cup game on Saturday, away at Worcester Park in the CCL League cup, being Chicks reward for the 2-1 win in the previous round at CCL Premier Division club Epsom and Ewell. Next league game is on Saturday 4 October, with an away game against Farnham Town, next home game is on Tuesday 7 October when Hanworth Villa are the visitors to Meadowbank in the CCL Division 1 league cup.

Team:- Michael Nicholas, Jon Tyler, Alex Hill ©, Warren Burton, Scott Harrison, Dan Clayton, Jesse Davis, James White, Phil Page, Simon Cassidy, Victor Donker subs:- Lester Boniface, Martin Waldren, Aaron Leathingy, Dan Bennett, Gary Fennessy

I took the view that Kaiser was taking the p1ss over surnames, and I was trying to point out that these players originated from overseas.

Certainly NOT a racist remark. You know me FAR better than that !
