URGENT Help Needed This Saturday

Just had a call from somebody involved with Canvey Island Youth.

 

Apparently, some total *!

What a despicable thing to do, someone must have put a lot of effort in to doing it, how low can anyone get? And to what purpose? What a sad [****!!****].Don't suppose they will be caught, but someone doing something as potentially dangerous as that deserves to be locked up.

Where is the ground exactly? (Have never been there)

What is the point in anyone doing this? Its a pitch for kids and teenagers who are often stereotyped as being thugs, yet this bunch are trying to do something good with their time, and someone (adults) go and spoil it.

 

Whoever did it is a total [****!!****]-up.

I was down there last night, this was not vandalism, this was nasty!

 

In the 18 yard box was a dozen bottles, 2 coffee jars and a couple of pickle jars. there was what appears to be a car windscreen and a smaller window.

 

They then took the roller and rolled it all into the ground, smashing the glass into tiny bits and embedding it into the ground. Bear in mind this is a very remote area, who ever done this knew what they were doing.

 

They then poured Creosote all over the roller and some of the barriers and attempted to set it alight.

 

There was no damage anywhere else except in the 18 yard box!

 

Whoever done this wanted to stop kids playing football on this pitch, this is not part of the main club, this is where the kids play!!

That's quite disturbing. Sounds like somebody planned this.

I find that quote offensive - though not a 'kid' as such I'm still quite young, but I would never even dream of doing something like this. If people didn't stereotype then kids would have more respect. And if you read the original post, Glen said that it is suspected that adults did this.

Gutted for the teams and everyone that has worked really hard involved with the youth. I refereed over there a few times last season and you can really tell an effort has been with the changing room's and the tea bar this is something that you dont see at other youth clubs.

 

I also heard that someone did the same thing over at waterside astro turf got loads of bottles and smashed them all over it. Waterside got the council to clear it up has anyone thought of contacting them?

It was amazing, we turned up this morning with a working party to do the work and Sid Cope had already done the business.

 

Old Sid who is about 75 got on his hands and knees for two days and picked every bit up then got an industrial hoover and went over it.

 

Sid has coached just about every kid on the Island at some time or another, still runs a team of youngsters and did not want the game cancelled.

 

Now that man is a hero and really sums up the Island!!

Good start to the season for you, shame about last minute goal today. Happened to us last week too, bloody awful feeling aint it.

 

Just wanted to add to MOBS comments really, I have known Sid Cope for 33 of my 38 years in this world and i was one of the many Islanders coached by him also. What is amazing about this guy is that not only his he Canvey through and through he also remembers the majority of his players names years later. Amazing! He did mine and i was bloody rubbish!! lol

 

Not sure when the deadline is for nominations for sports personality of the year award categories are, but i feel Sid will qualify for a local or lifetime dedication award nomination. Down to you guys to do that i s'pose.

 

Anybody that can do that to a pitch played on by kids are utter garbage.
