The amalgamation between Rangers and Town in 1964

Norway BTFC - Lemmy - used to be with a band called Sam Gopal.

A very interesting thread, I for one had not heard of Billericay Rangers - but from memory, I thought that Billericay Town used to be called Billericay FC (ie with no Town) - I may well be wrong on this one, and it could quite simply be that the 'Town' bit was left off of one of the away programmes. I also thought they had a ground that was right on the corner as you came up from Shenfield, past the turning for what is now New Lodge, then if you kept on going you came to a T-junction, and the ground was on the right hand side.

I thought they left this ground when they moved into senior football.

Yeah, I know, I have their only album, Escalator, from 1968, but that's before Lemmy joined the band. He played guitar then, started to play bass in Hawkwind...

Nope. Newspaper articles and match reports from the 20's, 30's and 60's all use Billericay Town.

Not sure about the directions you mention, but in the 30's and onwards Billericay Town played at Sun Corner/Archer Hall at Laindon Road.

Match reports from the 20's mention their ground as Quilter's Meadow, but I'm not sure if that's the same as Sun Corner or if it's a completly other place.

I'll guess I have to study old maps now too...

before rangers the team was called Norsey Rangers and as far as i can remember it was run by laurie garrard.we used to play at lake meadows but on the pitch near the hillside road entrance it had a terrible slope across the pitch.I do not think that the essex F A would let us be called Billericay as there was already a Billericay team in the area but in the end we were allowed to change it.I played for the under 18 team run by dave pritchard and then progressed. The Crown pub was our meeting place
