Welling Vacancy

Recommended Posts

I think that the presentation "do" was not really the place, the lads were having a good evening, just able to relax and chat.

From the grapevine however word is.

apart from those on contract:

McKimm wants to stay, Jacko when he left was saying to everyone (including the Fridge) see you next season?? Matt Lee wants to stay as does Nick Burton and Justin Skinner.Paul Wilkerson also seems very happy .

Benno has been heard to say he will make his decision after the Middlesex Wanderer's game.

If non-attendance at the do was anything to go by. I think only Simon and Ben were not in attendance.

If Benno goes, to a league club, then good luck to him, but after making a clean sweep of all the awards (apart from the Internet player) he must realise how well thought of he is.

I think we should have a clearer picture this week, as I am sure Andy will need to speak to the players soon.

I have already posted elsewhere my thoughts, but if players leave then we must do all we can to help the club financially to get in as good if not better, we simply canot afford to get in inferior players, we will not surive.

Hence the importance of the Supporters Trust and any other schemes to raise money.

( Matt I more than most realise you have already done more than your bit)

What we need is another hundred or more people or groups of people to make similar contributions.

More importantly, with the title of this thread, any assurances that Andy will be around next season ?

We all seem to be focusing on the players, but the last line of Andys last Manager report was a little ominous.

Quote:
Thanks for your support throughout this season, there are some massive decisions to make after 5-O/Clock tomorrow, a win will make them a lot easier for people to make.

Have any of these massive decisions been made yet.

I have regular contributed to the player pledge, and will continue to do so. Whilst some of the circle of people I attend the games with have also contributed. The vast majority have not.

Upon questioning this, it would appear they want to see something tangible for their money. ( I know - Conference survival was tangible enough for me, but some want more than that. )

Rather than ramble on, I am sure that there are many others out there of a similar mind.

So, what I am asking is prior to next season , if the club, can produce a comprehensive list of sponsorship opportunities that exist, and whilst published on here, also makes coverage in all the local rags as well.( Especially the reporter )

Every little helps...

If we don't do things like that , Charlton and their media coverage will piss all over us...

How tangible do you want, without the player's pledge there would have been no Adrian Pennock this season!

Club sponsorship and a supporters trust are two entirely different things Wayne. The trust will be run by the supporters for the club, sponsorship will continue to be run by the club.

The point of an ST is:

1: To acquire shares in the club so that the supporters know that they are part of the club.

2: To have a supporters representative on the board of directors.

3: To raise funds that the club can use for specific purposes. The funds will be controlled by the trust and so the trust will have to agree that funds are used to the benefit of the supporters, be that by paying for specific ground enhancements or for the signing of a new player.

Now if that isn't incentive enough to persuade people to part with a small amount of cash, then I'm sorry, but nothing is going to persuade them.

I spoke to Andy before this came up, and he told me that he was staying.

That is superb news.. I didn't want to believe the rumours..

As I said, conference survival was tangible enough for me, hence the regular contributions, but the point I was trying to make is that out of the circle of 15 or so that I attend the games with, only 3 made player pledges. ( Despite my continual nagging) and to move on at this level we can't rely on the same individuals continually handing over money.

7.5K was a great amount of money to raise in such a short time, I was only highlighting the fact that if we can achieve that in what was a rushed ( tho' passionate ) campaign, what could the club achieve if we had a concerted campaign and highlighted sponsorship type opportunities, in the local media.

Whether its by the ST or the club, I don't really mind , but lets give Andy a chance to compete.

The futures bright, the futures ' Andy Fords' red and white army

PS. Looks like our ol' mate Cameron could be in for a bit of stick tonight from the Chester lot, he wasn't one of their favourites before today and I don't think his penalty miss will do him any favours ... Shame !!!

Welling seemed to think Paul Parker - recently resigned from Chelmsford - was coming here! Now they think he's going to them.

Parker resigned from Chelmsford because of their low playing budget, what makes Welling think they have the budget to offer him...?

The Supporters Trust sounds like a great idea to me, especially having a Supporters Rep. on the board of directors.

Hopefully the Rep will be pro-active and pass on the many good idea's expressed here about wider advertising, closer relationships with the schools etc. etc. (I can then nag at them rather than posting on here!)

I sympathise with Wobbly Waynes point. To progress at this level you need more people to come forward and sign up to the Supporters Trust.

Its only my opinion but feel that to get more people onside, the Trust needs to make a really BOLD Statement such as "We need to raise 20 grand to buy Lee Boylan".

Ok its a poor example, but didn't you for just 1 moment get a little excited by that prospect? You need something that is going to capture the imagination of the majority of fans.

At this level, especially if we hope to compete with the ex-league clubs you need a better organised fan-base so credit to Jessica and Dave for putting the wheels in motion.

I think if you ask the ex - Fleet players now at Welling, you will get the answer that there is more money available to pay players there, than we do at Stonebridge Road !!!

Really? Blimey, an injection of funds I presume, rather than a solid fan base...?

Dave/Jessica/Wobbly.....Your thoughts please.

Regarding the subject of tangible assets and the fund, 7.5k was a good amount to have raised in such a short space of time. Wobbly is right in that it was probably a smallish bunch of people that raised the cash rather than 1000 people giving 7.50 gbp each and this needs addressing.

Dave, while you state that the players fund helped towards the signing of Adrian Pennock, i disagree. I think we would have signed him whether we had the fund or not. Do we think that signing Pennock kept us in the conference? Debatable, but i think the return of the Fridge kept us in this league. Pennock played 10 times for Gravesend. If the fund was used solely for him are we getting any value at 750 pounds a conference match. In my opinion, no.

People need something to feel thats theirs and that they arent throwing money down the drain. Do i feel i got value for money after spending 1k, of course not but thats not why i gave it and i will all things being good contribute a similar amount next season. I think as has been pointed out, fans need to have their imagination captured...People go on and on about Lee Boylan...This is because this lad would be an exciting signing. I, as a fan want something i "own" running around on the pitch. I dont want the 7.5k spent on wages, i want it to go on a transfer fee fund. Obviously i know that u dont have to spend money on players these days but i want the supporters money to goto something tangible...Pennock leaves in the summer and we have nothing to show for our efforts. Yes, you can say we're in the conference but i believe you have to look at the full picture as ive already outlined above.. Thats my thoughts on the touchy subject smile.gif

I have to agree, to a certain extent, with Matt.

Lee Boylan would be an exciting signing.

Then again, so would David Beckham (get your £25 million ready Matt!)

Whilst we can't tell Andy what to do, it would show the ambition of the club whilst capturing the imagination of many fans.

1. Adrian didn't cost £7,500, the players pledge paid £4,000 to the club for him.

2. It's no good having the money to pay the transfer fee if you can't afford the wages.

3. We may have signed Adrian anyway, but then the policy of one in one out would have applied. in any event the club asked for money specifically for his wages, so it is a fact not an opinion that the pledge paid for him to come to the club.

I hear that he has gone to Hornchurch who have the sort of budget that he wants.

At the end of the day it's all money into a pot. An extra 7.5k into that pot simply gives the club an extra 7.5k to spend, regardless of what its spent on. Quibbling over whether it's spent on transfer fees or wages is simply semantics.

And if that extra 7.5k played any part in gaining us the 3 points that kept us up then it was money well spent, and my personal gratitude to all of you who contributed and made that possible grin.gif
