He can head a ball okay Michael as can Smithy,Young & Taylor. Maybe its just everyone's positioning at dead ball situations that is letting them all down. Are they "attacking" the ball rather than waiting for it? Plus of course there's that "concentration" thing.

I'm sure if these three things were adhered to we wouldn't be conceding & conceding early as we have been doing.

Mind you there's another way to stop leaking goals & thats to get the ball into the opponents half & keep it there.

BA says in the paper that they show them how to do things on the Thursday at training but they forget it by the Saturday, some must have short memories.

Also says they are capable enough for this league but if they don't perform they will be out.

That is probably 75% of the solution-if they can do it.

The goalkeeper should be catching far more in the air than he is at the moment to take pressure off the defence. I do agree blame in part has to be attributed to the defenders being too flat footed though.

Agree Porka. That too needs some brushing up on.

Question:
Were the defenders on Saturday(those that went on Saturday)
talking to each other & generally not leaving it to others to deal with? Or in your opinion's did this have nothing to do with the dithering in defence.
Did anyone notice at all one way or the other.

The 'keeper's lack of ability in dealing with any sort of cross has certainly filtered through to the defence and, on Saturday, we were a shambles at the back. Sam Taylor is an awful defender, for me. Both full-backs were poor and even Dan Young did not look his assured self that we have come to expect in recent weeks.

But, ultimately, the problem lies with the keeper I think.

Absolutely correct Porka, and if none of the keepers we've got can actually do this, possible exception Matt Bowles (but he's injured). Suggestion the club go and get Dan Tyman from Deal. He'll come out and catch corners and set pieces all day long.

Got to admit the whole situation is starting to get me a little irate inside and I'm doing my best to hold it all in for now.

It's all very well having a good shot stopper but if a keeper can't catch a ball above his head, under pressure in a box, well to me; he's not a goalkeeper. This is the most important part of their position, in my opinion. Not that that's likely to pull any weight but it's nice to be able to air my views with others.

As many know, i just love clean sheets, and the first thing i look for and admire in any team is the quality of the defence.

Even so, i do wonder whether you are a bit harsh in your posting DM.

i totally agree that the defence is not great, but do we need to take it in the concept of the funds and time available to BA ;(thats why i have not been 'preaching' -don't concede the nil this season)and also in the context that these are part time players at Ryman level-and thus we need to compare them with other Ryman defences-as opposed to what we see on telly.

i was not there on saturday-so can't comment-but it does seem we were atrocious. In previous games though,-i thought we were marginally better in defence than last year-and certainly not displaying defending like a pub side that we saw so often last season which is why i got steamed up last season(it seems we were back to last season ways saturday though).

In a nutshell-i am simply saying that do we need to measure the standard of our defending against the standard of the top Ryman sides-and not expect anything better.

maybe i'm just going soft in my older years-but thats what old age does for you on many levels !!

Whilst we're airing our views I've got to say that the football I'm watching seems to be panic stations, most of the time. It very much looks like football played by a bunch of 6 or 7 year old children. In that we're so condensed it's like a bunch of bees round a honey pot just kicking the ball. Where the ball goes our entire team seem to go.

Any properly organised team can pick us off down our flanks at will. We then seem to have players in our team (not wanting to mention names) that love to run around winning the ball but can't pass it to another player without it being intercepted. So then it's back to the bee situation again, conceeding free kicks along the way. Which in turn eventually turn into goals.

Anyhow that's my rant over.

Good luck to all. Come on Margate I know we can start winning. Let's just start to get our foot on the ball. All give ourselves more time and stop trying to play the game at 100 miles an hour. Shouting and screaming at each other rather than telling each other to slow it down. PLEASE!

To be honest Cookie, and I have posted this on another thread, I really could not apportion blame to any individual on Saturday and I don't think it is fair on anyone to do so. In the first couple of minutes we had a chance to go ahead but the ball deflected off a Worthing defender - had that not happened who knows, the team's confidence may have been greater from the start. We obviously did not have most of the recognised first team squad out there, those on the pitch seemed to me to be doing their best.

To be fair to SCS, and in those days of SCS v CM anyone who knows me knows whose camp I was in, did any of those critics of his see him come well out of his goal in the first half to claim a high ball under some pressure?
