Ramos

"I have said it in another post....I seriously think this is doomed to fail.

There is no comparison with the way Ramsgate brought youngsters through to the way Margate are.

Rams were at a starting point of ROCK BOTTOM- Its nigh on impossible to get relegated from the KENT LEAGUE. The "gamble" to throw young players in at Kent League level when Weatherley was in charge couldn't really go wrong as the standard was so bad. The team that year finished about mid table in the Kent League with the likes of Schulz, playing as 17-18 yr olds.

It took 2 seasons and managers Hook and Jim Ward to bolster the squad with signings like Welford, Vahids, Pettit, Laslett, Hill for the team to be promoted twice in succession- the team growing in experience together in that period to be ready for the Ryman Premier League.

What Margate are doing is a HUGE gamble. The reserves league is not even up to the standard of the proper Kent league and go through the players signed for Margate to state who they could even challenge for a start in the Rams team?- there is a Gulf in the standard of players.

Unless 5 not only experienced but very good players for this level of football are signed before the season then it's hello Leyton all over again.

Which is disappointing as the competition between Kent teams is the most exciting for a long time.

Again the players that have been allowed to leave Margate in the close season is unbelievable!!

I hope your man has a plan!"

I still stick by this post..... you need those 5 new signings and FAST, a couple of defenders, esp a big centre back, couple of centre mids and a striker !!!!!!!!

They were at the time and remain today valid comments.

i think everyone agrees it is a 2/3 year strategy. Not many expect us to achieve much this season.-but it will only work if we keep Ryman premier status this season. That is the key-we must stay up.

Having siad that-we are not that inexperienced, so lets not play the inexperience card too much:

The following players all have ryman premier or higher experience before this season:

SCS,Mullins,L Smith Young,Gregory,Coleman,Morris ,Wilson Quain,

Corbishley,Hickman,P Smith,Peter,Power.

Is the quality there though ?

I remember two seasons ago, before Trott came in, and we were struggling, everybody was saying that we were too good to go down. However as time went on it looked increasingly possible, even with the players we had then. This season I have heard similar comments already. Sorry but when you are down it is very hard to get out of that relegation feeling. Nothing appears to go right and you don't get the luck. How many times have we heard that a team is to good to go down and they inevitably do? Sorry but we are in a much worse situation now than I have ever known. This is a terrible start and before long, if nothing drastic is done, we will be too far behind to catch up. Saturday is another huge test and realisticaly we will be lucky to come out of the match avoiding another humiliation. So are the squad capable of avoiding elegation, no I don't think so.

Sorry to disagree with you Steve because on the games I have seen so far this season, yes we can avoid relegation IMO.

Not sure what happened on Saturday but things like this do happen in FA Cup and will continue to do so.

Margateshot, just looking at one of your posts from after the Tooting game. In it you said:

1) It was the first game you had seen this season.

2) You were impressed.

Saturday was a big bag of sh!te but to say "we are in a much worse situation now than I have ever known" suggests a short memory or you have been following the club for only a few years. As for 05/06, there was never any prospect of being relegated. Without dredging up all the Kinnear stuff, we already had enough points to stay up when we got rid of him. The board just bottled it.

Being a mean, malevolent, non-sporting type of guy,is there any chance that if we did our homework on the Worthing players, that maybe one of them was not registered to play in the FA Cup and that we could go through on a technicality !!

Not suggesting that is the case, but if it was me responsible for the club, i'd definately check into it.

Such mistakes are easily made !!

Cambridge would have been a nice day out

I think it says it all that for the first few weeks of the season the only consolation Rams fans had was the bluenoses not doing well either, and vice-versa.

This weekend both sets of fans were too depressed to gloat.

Thanet football is not in a good place at the moment.

Still, there was that stupid Geordie woman on Saturday saying that Keegan resigning had 'ruined her life.' What a total lack of perspective. The next time either Margate or the Rams win we will be both be a lot more optimistic - it's the way football fans are. I predict that when the derby is played on December 27th both our teams will be in the top half.

Sorry Ian, Clive, Margates plight can't be considered the same as ours. With the Rams squad as is, a mid table finish is a probability, if Margate don't sign anyone they look to be going down. The 5 players we need would get us into play offs, wheras Margates would get them to a mid table position.

Hope someone makes funds available, as next year will be no fun without Bluegate thats for sure!

I'm happy with mid table this season, keep all our players, sign a few then push on next year, FA, league Cup, and trophy are added bonuses!!!

Sorry to hijack the Forum Margate, but can't see many Rams fans seeing any joy in you lot getting relegated, just like the league being a worse place without Folkestone this year for Kent clubs.

Coffin Ender you are right in what you say. Perhaps it may not be the worse situation ever but it is dire at the moment. I have been watching Margate for about 30 years, God Forbid, and so have seen a quite a lot over the years. What I am saying, is that although we have had some bad times recently we have always had a team capable of holding its own. At the moment we have not, but we do have some time to make it better. The depth of the squad is not good enough. It has been pointed out before that we could just about cope, but with suspensions and injuries we would struggle. Unfortunately they have come pretty quickly this year and we are struggling. Yes I said I was impressed on Tuesday but we still lost, desevedly or not. I am trying to point out that year on year, whether it be in the Premiership or anywhere else, you hear people say "they are too good to go down". However when you are down there the confidence is affected and its hard to break the trend, the luck doesn't come and all of a sudden its too late. I don't want us to get to that position we need to strengthen the squad now.

A Worthing comment:

"This is completely pathetic how we can lose 4-1, beat a team in a higher division 5-1 a fews days later, and then still manage to lose days after that 4-1 AGAIN"!

Sums things up I think! We can't allow ourselves to be this bad ever again.
