FA Cup - Worthing v Margate UPDATES

They played much like that old Everly Brothers song ''LIKE STRANGERS'' . . . I've calmed down now, but as a KEEP THE FAITH promoter, I am usually a well laid back person, but I was really P1ssed with the performance yesterday, so much so that I had a go at a friend, who was constantly voicing his dismay and anger at the way they were playing . . . really sorry about that J.P.

Never seen the wife so wound up at a game before either . . . the team has a lot to answer for there as well, they didn't have to drive home with her . . . she was driving as well - SCARY OR WHAT!

Easier to joke about it now we've calmed down, it was DISGRACEFUL yesterday. Nuff said methinks.

I think that acdc, Joseba and Ancient Blue have pretty much said it all, allied to my earlier comment that yesterday was simply awful. Apart from the singing of the few lads of course and the realisation that we have a great matchday programme at Margate!

I really can't nail any one part of the performance that was really worse than another without saying to myself "yes, but if XXX had been happening/available that would have been alright" I am sure that the management/manager/players didn't want it to happen as it did.

Looking back at the season so far, we have had one real disaster with Canvey, apart from this, but most of the games have been close. When you think that Carshalton are currently 5th in the league, we ran them close on their ground on the first day of the season: the difference in that game to us getting a point was one shot hitting the post and things might have been so different.

Well I've backed the players up until yesterday & whilst I couldn't be there yesterday all reports seem the same.

Yes I got annoyed at yesterdays efforts & I for the first time this season felt cheated by a pack of players that HAVE without a shadow of a doubt improved with each game up until yesterday.Quite what it was that left them shy of performing is anyone's guess but I like others will have calmed down by now & on we go with the next game.I apologise not for getting uptight & annoyed after yesterday but I will still be turning up (at home at least) to support these players. I hope others are not put off either & that they too continue to support them.

Ashford away is a hot one but if these lads can revert back to that improvement we saw prior to yesterdays game, who knows we might cause a major surprise.

If no points come our way on Saturday then Tuesdays game v Tonbridge will be an even bigger game because we are at home & though the Angels are playing well & are always a tough nut to crack its a game we MUST win.

We have a few weaknesses as far as I can see.Weaknesses that other clubs are taking note of.

1) Three times in 8 games we have conceded in the 1st 5 minutes.(A couple by headers from corners I believe)

(2) Only once have we taken the lead in those 8 games.

(3) We have failed to keep a clean sheet in every game.

These are weaknesses that BA must address before Saturdays game.If he can do this (as he should have done before now to be perfectly honest) & get the lads heads up Saturday might just see us seeing a brighter picture.

These players we have are capable of winning BOTH games i.m.o but we have to have learnt & rectified the above before Saturday.

Barry Ashby & partners, its now down to you to do your stuff midweek,to turn these once improving players into a decent outfit,a squad that will not be seen as a walk-over by others.

Its time to stem that flow of flaws & to turn that tide!!

ESPECIALLY next week as ASHFORD are renowned for coming out all guns blazing.

Disillusioned and depressed this morning.

has reality sunk in.

Have i-and many others-been in denial.

is it a simple fact that frankly-our current squad is just not good enough to compete at this level.

Was it just a bad day,(we seem to keep having them )or are we simply not up to it.

I guess manager and board are asking the same questions-the problem is-have we got the financial resources to do anything about it and change/improve things.

I think BA can still keep us up, but whilst i thought there was sufficient ability and fight amongst the current squad-maybe i am wrong, and we do need some better players if we are going to avoid relegation.

Will keep supporting to the end though-Up the 'Gate

Maybe it was "just a bad day" Michael.
I'll say it again & keep saying it if I have to,up until yesterday the team was improving without a shadow of a doubt. Lets not overlook this.
They were extremely unlucky in two away games prior to that. They may not be up to winning this league but staying up is well, well, well within their capabilities i.m.o.
A lot of concentration especially from the off(in both halves)& for the full 90 minutes & we will be back on track I'm sure of it!

You have me flummoxed there.Saying its a must win game dosen't show that I'm NOT going to support them.I fail to see your point with that comment.
Regardless of results thus far we should all still be turning up & not turning our backs on them as often happens with some supporters & thats my point.
If we lose the "must win" game,as could happen, then so be it but every game to me is a must win game.It just so happens that that particular game is the nearest best chance we have of doing so.We have to try & take that opportunity(at home) next time up.
Lets not forget we might even take points at Ashford before that who knows.

Its my personal view matey.I'll dilute my comments then just for you, seeing as though you are after points yourself(from me).

Its a game we have a very good chance of winning & we have to do our very best to take that opportunity when it comes around.

Are you more satisfied now?

I agree with all of the above, if that makes sense. There are several different views with approx'y the same summation that the support will continue. I, as a new follower and supporter of the GATE, will aslo continue to do so. BUT,and there's always one!,strength in depth is now an apparent issue when injuries occur. The 2 young lads up front ran their socks off due to **** poor service for MOST of the game and were outpaced/fought for the rest. The midfield were totally undicilined with only two of the four tracking back, covering and supporting the defenders/strikers when needed. As I stated on another thread why did Lee Maskell keep the bench warm??? defeats me!! No names no pack-drill but IMO we need 5 players with more experience, short term loans if necessary, with a bit more pace. And why was there such a lack of direction from the bench yesterday compared with previous games so far. If the management are disalussioned, hacked off or even resigned to a bitter and unerving defeat I dont want see that to be transmittted to the pitch by a lack constructive/technical direction. Finally the board have to revisit their finacials to release further much needed funds. The players heads are gonna go down further now and it needs new blood of quality and experience to lift the spirits of several players. Just my 2 penneth and I'm sure I will get shot down again but I dont feel that I'm too far off the mark here.I also take my hat of to all the away-day followers........yer a cracking crowd and I admire your devotion, well done the club are lucky.Do they know it though?

Hear! hear! I too felt sorry for those that were able to make the long journey. Well done to those that managed to make the trip. Must have been an awful return journey home for them.

Only just able to get on the computer and add my thoughts, but here goes...

Yesterday was absolutely dreadful. Although I travelled down in good spirits, they were soon dampened slightly by the team news. After sticking with a holding midfielder sitting just in front of the back four in recent weeks and, on the whole, putting in some good performances, we had suddenly switched to a flat 4, which was beyond me. Immediately, it showed that we need that holding midfielder (be it Smudge or Maskell), as we were completely overrun in the middle of the pitch.

But, it's impossible really to say it was solely due to one individual; it was a dire team performance. Scotty was awful in goal; the defence were a shambles, with Worthing pretty much slicing through at will; as aforementioned, the midfield was poor, disorganised and provided little, if any, service to the front two; and the front two did little with the small service they received.

This really has to be a wake-up call for the board, management and players alike; if we continue like this, relegation is a certainty. We have to improve.

Still, knowing the game was beyond us at half-time, we decided to sing till our throats were sore in the second half, so we at least had a bit of a chuckle! Next Saturday could be humiliating.

As Duch Mike says Humiliating is the word , the team went out and played like a tired Sunday League Team . Although they may have run around a lot it seemed to get them nowhere, it was plain to see that there was no confidence in the dugout and the changes made in the second half made things worse . For those fans who made the journey to see Margate play it was a thorough dissapointment , they must have felt that they had been ripped off as I was . The decision to run this season with a cheap team is failing fast but it looks like there will be no escape from this situation because there is no money in the club to make improvements . People in the club who believe the cheap option is the correct way to go know nothing really on how a football club at this level really works , and have probably got more interest on other things rather than Margate Football club , its a sad time for all of the supporters of Margate Football Club but without proper finances in place the club is on the playing side always going to suffer , but those of us supporters who have our hearts at the club will always be there for the team whoever they may be .
