Let's take the positives from the game. You played an 'in form' team (i think). You scored. You didn't roll over. You showed heart. You battled. You lost to fight another day...

C'Mon fellas i'm rooting for you! excited

Right just returned from game. Firstly it was my first game this year and I have no idea who the players are. Desperately unlucky not to get something from this game tonight. We had a penalty turned down in the last 10 and what appeared to be a perfectly good goal in the last 5 mins. I don't usually critsise ref but thought he was poor, especially in second half. I thought he chickened out of several decisions for us. As I said I don't like to critisise as we are all biased towards our own team, but several of their supporters said they didn't see any push for our disallowed goal. After that the players just got frustrated and we had several bookings and the sending off. The other thing is that we look very vulnerable at the back. It just seems that we are likely to concede every time the other team go forward, although the second half was a big improvement.

We desperately need a striker. Peters is far too small to be that far up front and the others are very naive in the penalty area. Saying that he was deperately unlucky when he placed the ball round the keeper for it to be cleared off the line in the first half, it was a brilliantly taken effort, he really showed his calss tonight before going off. As said its the first time I have seen the team and in my opinion it has the makings of a good side, but sorely lacking experience. There are too many first time touches and passes going astray with players not taking that brief moment to look up for another player. It will come I'm sure but how lomng do we have? The worrying thing tonight is that we had Smith and Peters taken off with injuries and, I believe, a straight red to Parkinson. Thats possibly 3 players out of the FA Cup on Saturday, leaving us a very weak squad.

I know there are some negatives there but all in all I was impressed. Their keeper had a blinder tonight and kept them in it on several occasions. All in all I think we probably had the most chances on the night and were beaten by an absolute peach of a second goal. Someone else will be on here later and give a proper summary and probably disagree with some of this but it is just my opinion at the end of the day.

From the Tooting forum to add a bit of balance:

Not there, so can't comment on the disallowed goal:

Just to point out to any Margate fan that reads this, it was not a "perfectly good goal" the Margate forward was pulling the shirt of the defender right under the refs nose. The lack of complaints from the Margate players would suggest that they knew this as well.

Margate were not a bad side but sadly for them their best player (the No 7) had to go off injured and they never looked quite the same after wards. No thanks to the brainless No 2 who got himself sent off at the end!!

Have just listened to a bit of wellsies commentary-it was at the back post again -aaaaaargh !!

Interesting that you should be going on about the far post. During the game I noticed that we did seem to be targetting the back post with every dead ball, and we seemed to make sure we always had blokes back there.

Our managers do their homework and if that has been a weakness for you this season, we look like we capitalised on it.

As for the game, I didn't think there was much between the sides, and on another day the result might have been different. But, much like last season, it looks like the majority of the teams in this division are capable of beating each other, and will do. And like last season, I don't think there will be too many points between the playoffs and the drop zone.
