A blast from the past

Definitely early 70's, Possibly 1970/71, which is before we left the Dolphin of course.

I have a supporters year book from that era and the player pictures have them wearing shirts with the Dolphin logo.

Notice the colours are Amber & Royal Blue, Bobby's Hatt should be pleased!

A good combination of colours indelibly associated with a period of great success in the club's history. When I first watched Slough, the home kit was royal blue shirts with amber sleeves and white shorts. This was followed blue and amber regular hooped shirts. But does anyone remember the next set of vertically striped shirts-thick royal blue and thin "salmon"? There must have been a story behind their acquisition but they served us well, particularly during 1964/65 when Peter Lowen and Bernie Gogan scored goals for fun set up by Ronnie Bloom, Bobby Dearlove and a youthful Terry Reardon.

Great days, Peter Lowen use to score at will all the tricky goals, but put them over the crossbar from a foot out ?

That was the days when most players really could be called local.

Delighted to see that shirt Bernie and the sooner we return to Amber & Royal blue the better ! Cant be any more specific with the year really , although some of the 70/71 photos i have are in round neck shirts ? If we knew the exact year we maybe have a good idea whose 12 shirt it was ? I have asked the seller if he knows the year / player , if i get the info will let you all know , in the meantime who has bids in ? :-)

I am sure the shirt was not worn in the Amateur Cup final.Check with Alan Smith or Tony Abbott for a picture of Rodger Day shaking hands with the ref pre match you will see the final shirt worn that day is different.(I hope I am wrong)

Be interesting to know who else was bidding-surely it can only have been a Slough fan-who else would want it.

I don't think its a Amateur Cup Final shirt cos it doesn't look quite like my one.But certainly if you can get it signed by the team of the final it would be great and also rare i would imagine-good luck to you.

Alf D'Arcy would have been the oldest player at the time in his middle thirties I think.

Hi Wiz , if the details in the semi-final programme for the Dagenham game at the Valley are correct , they refer to Alf as a 36 year old " evergreen " which would of course mean he would have been 38 by the final year of 73 , amazing if right ! I wasnt bidding as i figured it would be against Gary , the other two looked like regular dealer / collectors from their bidding history ? I wonder how the shirt ended up with a seller in Leeds ?

B.Hatt.

Just shows you what a great player he was over the years-I am guessing, but he must have been about 5ft 5in and played CENTRE BACK for Barnet,Enfield,Slough, England and Great Britain-unbelievable!!

At one stage he was the most capped player and then he fell out with the manager Charlie Hughes and never played internationally again.
