Darn ter Margate!

I felt that I should express my feelings on here over a completely superb day yesterday, not only for the Urchins but for NLF in general.

The Hartsdown Road pitch was in superb nick and unfortunately there was a force umpteen gale but that didn't stop our lads from putting in a professional performance against a Margate team of young 'uns that was keen to take the three points off us.

The Urchins best performance so far in my eyes anyway, as all through the squad they approached and handled the game excellently.

No special mentions, but I could quite easily give them to everyone individually.Well done to Colin and his team, we are proud Urchins.

Well done to you fans who travelled via trains and boats and planes as usual and made yourselves heard.

Credit to the locals who are a great bunch, it's what NLF is all about in my mind.

Big thanks to Al for ensuring the Amber Nectar was available, and the 'Gate stewards, who couldn't do enough for us on arrival.

Also to the bar staff, Janet, Terry, Dave and all the others, feeding of the K5 as usual!

We now go on from there with Wealdstone on Tuesday and then the FACup next week, very important games.

Let's get behind them, tell all your friends, the Urchins are ready and waiting.

Big thanks

To put the gale into perspective, at one time in the first half when Margate had a free kick, a player had to hold the ball rugby style to keep it still so that the other player could take the kick.

One of the real highlights of the gale was when Dale's long clearance not only bounced out at the other end, but also cleared the row of oak trees, and there was also John Purdie's 70 yard clearance which the home keeper saved right under the bar, and Billy Coyne's throw from inside his own half which went out for a goal kick at the other end.

In the first half there was Wayne Wilson's 45 yard free kick which Dale tipped over, but the Urchins mastered the conditions far better than the home side.

If anyone gets the NLP could they let me know what the report was like please - I had to ad-lib it from outside the ground immediately after the match. Hopefully it was not too bad.

Great post Maxinio.

It's so nice to see visitors praising their hosts these days.

Too many people are far too quick to slag off their opponents and their grounds.

Yesterday, because of the weather, we at Dorking had some visitors at Meadowbank who had no particular vested interest in our game, but had turned up because their games were 'off'.

I asked them in the bar why they bothered to come. General concensus was that they liked to watch their football and particularly enjoyed the welcome and hospitality of DFC.

That speaks volumes for me !!

............. as if !!!

..... and we don't have the added incentive of attractive bar-staff, even with Big Brian and me behind the jump !
