Good start to the season?

Recommended Posts

A quick and basic comparison to this point last year with 5 league games and first round of the FA cup played.

07-08

Won - 1

Drew - 0

Lost - 5

For - 5

Against - 14

Points - 3

FA Cup - out

08-09

Won - 2

Drew - 2

Lost - 2

For - 14

Against - 18

Points - 5

FA Cup - in

Note:- I have counted the Abingdon cup games as one otherwise there would be one more draw to count.

A far stronger start than last year both in the league and cup with a strong stable team (no manager in goal for the cup!!!!) and a far more stable structure off the pitch.

Yes one swallow does not may a summer, but last year teams like Burnham, Thatcham, Abingdon and Taunton would be walking all over us - that is not happening.

Have to agree, it has been a much better start, despite the heavy away defeats at North Leigh and Cinderford. As a whole the club is more stable under the guidance of Steve Easterbrook and the management board, and we have a good quality coaching setup and stable squad which is steadily improving.

Winning that cup game against Abingdon on Tuesday shows that we can match some of the teams in this league, which we didn't seem to show very often last season.

I believe it has been quite a while since we were unbeaten in 4 matches?

Guest Wizard ( RWG )

Don't let's get carried away though, I note Abingdon have only won one game and could not even beat Cirencester yeaterday( whose team by the way are mostly made up of academy players from the local Uni).

No!What you should be asking yourselves is in the entire division which team is the biggest town with the largest population, then you have some idea of how far we have sunk.Don't be like that staines idiot and compare a few games from last year and a few from this, and pat ourselves on the back cos we might have won a couple more over teams that really should not be on our radar.

I remember not so long back going 11 games unbeaten in the conference, but it did not do us a lot of good.Don't ever be happy with mediocrity, always strive for better.

Thank you for the insult - if that is actually RWG posting!

Not loged on, so if that is your true feelings RWG log on and say it.

For who ever wrote that comment - read my post and you will see I say one swallow does not make a summer, and I was comparing this year to last year, not nearly 10 years ago when Slough was in the conference - things have changed if you have not noticed!

As per the level of teams we are playing - they have earnt the right to be in this league (we should on paper be a level down)and you can only play the teams put in front of you - all 4 teams I mentioned finished above Slough last year, so to either draw with or beat them is to do better than last year

i think the most important thing for me is that it is clearly visible that we are better all round the pitch. yes the results havent been massively better than last year but in the last 2 weeks even we have improved dramatically from how we was playing the first 2 weeks of this season. obviously we wont be going on incredible unbeaten runs but just remember all you can do each season is improve on the last and last season was terrible to watch compared to this so far

I think that over the matches so far, the players are gelling more and more, and the football is looking better each game.

We look like we are going to score now, which helps greatly when we make the odd mistake in defense. Again, the defensive mistakes are getting less and less now.

I hope the improvement continues

Wizard - where did you get your info on Cirencester, as it is cack. Saw them at Cleeve, most are experienced southern lge players, with a certain Julian Alsop up front. He by the way is a good old fashioned centre forward built like a whatever, with tons of football lge experience. You losing your touch old boy.

well most of it off their own website actually-also I have had debates with the fans on the site, about 5 is usually all that visit the site, and they all say that the academy provides players, yes one or two new men this season, mainly those others didn't want, they also tell me that they don't expect to compete money wise with any great belief,Cirencester they say is more a community club.
So grandad what can I say, get your pipe and slippers and have fortywinks.

My info came from pen pics provided by the club, but what the heck I'll bow to your superior knowledge.

Pen pics provided by the club for Cleeve's program you complete muppet! If the information I have read, or the knowledge I have gleaned from watching teams down here, including Cirencester, on a reg basis is incorrect I humbly apologise.

There are too many people on here whose sole purpose appears to be to belittle the opinions of everyone else. These people may in fact be just one or two as all are unregistered. I am getting pissed off with this. I use this forum to get info on the team I have been following for 22 years, as I now live 80 miles away, and can not get up too often due to other commitments. Trouble is this is rapidly becoming a waste of space with all this back biting. Get real, we all know it was better in the old days, and btw so was music and lots of other stuff, but that was then, this is now. It is far from perfect, but it is where we are, and where we need to move on from. Can we at least try to do that together, or soon there will be even less of us. I have better things to do than get slagged off for venturing an honestly held opinion. By the way I can play nasty to if you want me to!!

Indeed, the sad fact is that goes for some of your regular posters too!
