Steph. It was fun to see your mum standing up for you!

I was bought up to regard football as a game with rules. It is no point criticising the officials when they apply the rules correctly safe the criticism when they make mistakes. I believe the issue that you are referring to was, in the words of McEnro,

"The ball was out!"

As for Rio, it is my view that one of the main differences in the team on Saturday was their commitment to the club. Rio was part of that and played like I had not seen him before. His role was clear. He did not back off from the tackle as he has done in recent games but got stuck in. He performed the Andy Jones role without the aggression and was, in my view, booked unfairly as I dont believe he fouled as much as the number 10 of Tilbury who was clearly playing percentages. A niggle here, clumsy tackle there, push elsewhere he obviously believed that he would get away with it and gain the advantage from his persistent fouling.

I actually thought that the officials all had good games and were a credit to your erstwhile calling.

I have not been impressed with anything Rio has done so far this season, that is until Saturday.

 

I thought he played his best game for the Club and provided some "steel" which had been missing from the team and his own game.

I hope this is now the level that he will perform in future matches.

It is early days for some of these new players and time will tell if they are good enough.

 

Perhaps the recent change in the Management structure will have a bigger effect on the squad than we all realized.

 

Looking forward to the next game....and I have not said that this season.
