Takeover interest

I just came across this article from thisishampshire.net, which features an article on online betting firm ibetX who are looking at taking over a club to raise their profile in football.

 

Their "number 1 target" is Basingstoke Town, but also mention Bedford Town and Slough Town as possibilities but have yet to approach them.

hmmm... take over by a less than established dotcom company?? their business plan would have to be unbelievably tight before any club would consider the option I'd have thought.

It's also not good business practice to initially approach a possible take over client in the press, assuming that their comment about not approaching us is correct.

Heard an interview with the owner of this lot on the radio about a month ago, has also been several newspapers and on the BBC local berkshire website in recent weeks. His aim is to enhance his standing in the community by taking a low level non league club into the football league within 10 years.

Beware - look at what happened with Ebbsfleet and the mess they are now in with the internet company which got the fans to become owners and vote in the team each week - the infighting that is going on there is unbeliveable.

 

Another example is the essex teams who got in bed with a double glazing company and got stiched up when the company folded.

 

I would hope that Steve will view any approach with total caution and carry out a full financial investigation to see if there plans stand up.
