Canvey Island 3-2 Tonbridge Angels

Thought the title of this should've maybe read: "Cheats Never Prosper" because for Tonbridge tonight, this certainly hits home.

A hard thought 3 points against one of the dirtiest bunch of bastards I've seen at Park Lane, accompanied by a totally incompetent Refereeing collaboration.

The win was just deserved for the tactics 'Angels' employed to enforce themselves into the game.

Tonbridge's first goal was disaterous - A bad, bad defensive error led to Ricky being put under pressure resulting in him mis-kicking the ball and Tonbridge with plenty of time to score. Their goal that was disallowed for offside, was from another terrible defensive slip and credit to Tonbridge at this time because they shut us down and forced us into these mistakes.

Their second goal, they beat our defence, Ricky was quick off his line, but the scorer had already beaten his man to tap it home.

Couldn't see much of Halle's goal from where I was standing.

Second half, we're quick out the blocks Fanibuyan earns a penalty that Crow lashes into the top right hand-corner. We clawed it back to 2-2 and then Tonbridge just went into thug over-drive. Halle is dismissed for an off the ball scuffle, yet their Captain unimaginably completes 90 minutes.

The Ref and frizzy haired Assistant lose the plot, and havoc ensues finally culminating in Ian Luck limping off after being brought down on the edge of the area and David Lee's free-kick clips the inside of the post and rolls into the net sending the Yellow Army into ecstasy and a rucus between the two benches.

Definately not a pretty game and judging by our first-half performance still improvement needed in some aspects. Personally I'd like to see Halle and Crow swap roles. Halle was very competent at left-back during pre-season and Crow was seriously caught out at times tonight. Plus Lucky given more than ten minutes on the pitch, especially as Curran is totally spent after an hour. Hope Lucky's injury isn't too bad, otherwise our strike options are looking very limited at the moment, but a re-jig of personnel in certain positions can sort that.

Let's hope for another three points against Hendon!

first goal was really really poor then ricky had a mad 5 mins where he missed another catch that put them in but luckly they missed give him credit he made some fine saves in the first half with that double save from that came from a missed placed pass from mustafa standing out.

was impressed with edwards looked good on the ball and worked hard

silly sending off by halle, moore was lucky not to go when he lashed out at the 9, but the ref had lost all control of the game by then!

3 well taken goals and a great come back!!

That incident with Moore was the icing on the cake for this Referee's incompetence. The Tonbridge fans had the cheek to chant for Moore to be sent off. Their 5 could've easily walked tonight as well. Wish Dobbo had been in there tonight he would've given us a very, very 'physical' presence! grin

I seem to remember the Billericay lot moaning about Tonbridge last season and now I can see why. They were physical to say the least!!! Shame because they played some nice football at times.

Great comeback and it shows what spirit we have in the side. We looked very sloppy at times in the first half but we were always creating chances. Got our first goal at just the right time and a quick goal in the second half gave us the confidence to dominate the rest of the match.

Even after the sending off, we held firm and they never really looked like scoring. Great goal by Dave Lee to win the game and good to see Gab back to his best.

My mate came to the match tonight and he seems to be a lucky omen (he was at Villa Park when beat Forest Green in the Trophy!!)

Hope after tonight's entertainment, he'll be coming back again.

Matt - I think we must have been watching different games last night?? Yes, I agree there were deensive mistakes last night, and as for the first goal all Ricky had to do was make any kind of decent contact with the ball and the danger was gone. Dealing with back passes is what goalkeepers work (or should be ) on. And as for your remarks about Halle and Crow, I couldn't disagree more. Since Crow has come back into the team he alongside with Tarkan and Dave Lee he has been our best player, he's expereince and quality at this level is vital. I think a bigger question mark should be placed on how easy long balls or balls over the top are beating our two centre halfs too easily.

But hey, ;let's be positive, it's been a great start to the season so far with 10 points in the bag already and some cracking games - more please!!!

My thoughts exactly.

Have to agree, couldnt see if there was any quality football being played cause I got wrapped up in the excitement and tension, realy enjoyed it and made even better by getting a last minute winner from'The Specialist'. Also great to see all the team showing great spirit and not letting their heads drop after going 2 down. Well done applause

What a game!

After the 2 gifts we gave them i thought i was all over..!

Great come back against the dirtiest team i have seen at the lane for sometime.

What can you say about David Lee, quality player who will get even better with more games under his belt.

Special mention goes to J Curran who i thought ran his heart out last night, he didn't give there defence a minutes rest.

Roll on Saturday!

Where were you standing then? I heard plenty of comments last night and I thought they were mostly agreeable.

All Crow had to do was put the ball out the ground, instead he put himself and Ricky under pressure. He only did it once more though and I think learned from those mistakes.

I agree his experience is vital but as pace is what he's lacking most I don't think he should be placed in a vulnerable position such as left-back anymore. His distribution is fantastic though and sitting in centre midfield knocking the ball on to Dobbo, Lee, Edwards, Leon, Fanny, Lucky, Antoine, Curran, or whoever will create some great attacking football.

Chris Moore has won the majority of headers he's gone for in games. His pace isn't the best, but with the likes of Patten and Halle playing at the back they should mop up comfortably. Patten is still young and will learn from all of this.

I agree, we're doing much better than many expected and although we're going to see alot of games similar to last night's I'm confident that barring too many injuries and suspensions we have a capable squad to deliver a respectable league position.

Did we appeal? I believe you have to lodge the appeal within 24hrs.
