Thanet times front page today

I would like to express my discuss at the news on the front page of the Thanet times. For those that havn't got one I will fill you in. The Thanet Sunday League conduct a pre season memorial cup game called the Andrew Sampsom memorial Cup. Andrew was a friend of mine of whom I played youth football with but 11 years ago he died in a car crash on his way to college. Birchington USC faced Albion at St Lukes and were 3-2 up when the 4th match official was assaulted after approaching an individual asking him to stop giving out abusive language to the opposition on the side line. This would have been his first season refereeing in this league and now I doubt he will be interested. The Thanet Times says that the game was good natured.

With a shortage of referee's in local football can we afford to be dishing out abuse on Sunday mornings and at senior level. If this continues I have no doubt it will effect potential senior football players and their development.

This season the Sunday league has enforced the FA's Respect campaign by banning abusive players and supporters for 1 year. My team will be implementing fines for players that abuse referee's and the money will be used to buy new footballs and medical goods.

I hope the referee gets better soon and hope that he will stick with refereeing so that the minority that dish out this abuse do not win.

On a lighter note the Respect video is funny.

Just saw it Paul, how shocking. Took the smile of my face after first seeing BA in back page laughing with his young son at game with the caption "I know know we've got a young side but I just can't take the chance on you, son"

Hope the guy concerned gets hit hard like Frankie said and I hope the young lad is not put of by this and recovers soon.
