How do you get to Tooting

Those who went via London, (Elephant & Castle and Rotherhithe) reported large traffic jams and they took over two hours to get there.

Anyone going via the M23 north route also found roadworks.

We went via the M25 and junction 8 and then followed the A217 and this took about ninety minutes, the only hold ups being at the ice rink / hospital complex in Romford. The return journey took about the same, but the slip road on to the M25 was closed (no warning was given and no diversion was posted), which meant going the other way to J9 - at J9 there is no way back on to the M25, hence a short one mile drive to J10 and then back on - this took us about 15 miles to get back to where we started. This apart, it was an easy run.

So we should be left in the traffic? say for example on the Euston Road yet there are tourists and business persons waiting to be collected from Eurostar arrivals. Not to mention Paddington Stn (heathrow express) and Victoria (gatwick Exp) Liverpool St (Stanstead Exp) all waiting cos we cant use a bus lane and are stuck in congestion.

I say expand the congestion charge and increase it to

Most cabbies i know want to take the public to where they want to go for a fare.

The parasites who sit at stations late at night preying on people who've missed last trains etc should all be shot.

Sorry if this is sexist, but i've seen them leave woman with nowhere to go because where they wanted to go doesn't suit the driver.

Anyway isn't it illegal to tout for business?

If the journey is over 12 miles then the black cab drivers have a legal right to refuse the fair or negotiate a fixed fare. Otherwise they are obligated to take all fares once communication with a potential customer has been made and the journey is within 12 miles.

Your example is a familiar one that i'm afraid is the bad apples in our trade, we all have them. The only way to stop it is to report the vehicle registration number to the public carriage office and explain what happened, it certainly not my policy to pick and choose routes to go on.

Fortunate thing is there are 25,000 of us cabbies and that woman you mentioned should not have waited too much longer to get a proper cabby
