Well Done Basildon Utd. Players

Recommended Posts

As people know, there has been a remarkable turnaround in the Bees fortunes on the pitch. The best moment for August, however, came off the pitch.

A Basildon supporter of many years standing turns up faithfully, easily recognisable by his old scarf and kindly demeanour. He's so quiet and polite but doesn't stop chatting when it comes to Basildon United. He knows the club like the back of his hand and has loads of back programmes and cuttings from years gone by.

Before our game against Clapton the other night a few of the team got into conversation with him. Being young lads (well, some of them) they could easily have made fun of this elder gentleman. Instead, though, they listened intently, and were so impressed with his dedication they all chipped in to pay for his admission and programme.

Whether or not we win 5-0 or lose 5-0, it's little things like that which make a team, make an entire club. That one action has made me more proud to be part of Basildon United than anything else.

Well done lads. You're a credit to the Essex Senior League.

Oh, contraire, young man, oh contraire. Since your departure to the exotic climes of Hillingdon we have a working shower, pink changing room, painted stand, clean seats and banking behind the goal instead of swamps and jungle.

It's all sophistication at The Hive. Why, the other day, I was even served a drink in a glass without a fag butt at the bottom of it. The times they are a-changing.

And also on this matter i no the bas players really well and they all agreed that the fan with the scarf is what football is all about, he went away on a train to takeley and he comes to ever home game, he is an old school footy fan and my hats off to all the players at basildon for realising this, well done lads
