You have gone very wrong if the auidence you are targetting are the youth of today.

I appreciate Elvis' music myself, I wouldn't pay to see anything but the real thing mind, although that is now impossible of course.

Here's another one for the royals to compete with, Crystal Castles, this is whats hot on the music scene right now....http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=t7VWn-j5EeU

Sorry to keep banging on about him (Elvis), but some of the tribute acts on the scene are amazing. They put on a tremendous show that involves the whole audience.

There's a place for the youngns and thier head banging music, and room for us old dinosaurs.

Back in the 60's I was involved in a couple of gigs, one at Dreamland and one at the Orchid Rooms, where four local "beat groups" got together and very successfully raised money for Whiteness Manor. On each occasion we filled the venues (at least if my memory serves me correctly we did), each group brought its own support as well as support for the charity and additionally got local newspaper coverage and promotion for the groups for gigs afterwards.

I know, or at least believe, that there may not be many decent size venues left in Margate with both places I have mentioned having gone but is such an event worth some consideration now? On behalf of MFC of course.

It is all very well going to agents and promoters but you really do need to get the right bands, whether it be tribute bands who are generally quite popular or local bands who have a) got some support and B) who may be sympathetic to the cause.

In fairness it cannot be considered that because we all think saving MFC is important others do as well so you have really got to allow for payment to the venues and acts that you book. If they do feel it a worthy cause, and from what I understand the Royles did last week, and donate their fees or whatever to the cause, then all credit to them for doing so.

With any event that you run nowadays you have to push it like mad, it is no good just thinking that by booking a venue and a band people will turn up because there are so many other attractions and diversions. Its all about marketing and promotion - however worthy we might feel the cause to be it cannot be assumed that others feel the same. Especially when it comes to parting up with money.

Perhaps we ought to get into a time warp and re-instate the Rendezvous Club or the Sunday Socials (the what?) which used to get packed on a Sunday night at Dreamland and the Winter Gardens.

Just a thought.

Hallo Margate , excuse me for going on your forum, but im loving hearing ou guys going on about , what is again realy (sorry youghters) quality music, Im with the dinosaurs here , 60s and 70s music sells,... if you had only 90s music onwards no one above 35 would go,... even Alan (sorry mr Blue gate) The Royles are masters of getting you up and dance,if this didnt happen itas not down to them im sure, as ive seen them (and know them) so those who diss them (without seeing them) miss a great night as ive know from expereince, ,.....While i from south of the border chaps,... i know from experience,... old music sells... you play an old song in a bar,.. it gets all sorts and boogie, and to be true to you guys if i came over to a gig i wouldnt talk footie, but have a boogie and drink excessive mounts of alcohol..... so i know money tight these days .. but if we can ...go out like me on an occasions .. be it an Margate event... or an invite via posters you see,... ..please support Thanet .......50 years from now we will be an island again

thankyou for your time,... you Northerners grin

The trouble is that these "Battle of the Bands" nights always seem to involve the bands doing it for nothing, not just doing it for a cause but for nothing on the assumption that the winner will actually get something positive out of it at the end. The winner is usually the venue.

The events that I described earlier in this thread were two events which we did annually off our own backs.

Whilst I am all for supporting local bands I don't believe that we should rely on any event where people are expected to do things for nothing, after all, music is a business. As I have written before, we should give full credit to all of those people who donate their fees for that is effectively what they do.

Mind you, if any venue was also prepared to provide free drinks, staffing, food in the same way as musicians their services, and allow all monies from admission, programmes, raffles etc to go to the cause on a one off basis who knows?

Linking this in to todays MFC update;i'm encouraged that the 5-a-sides seem at last to be 'getting there'.

I had a nagging doubt they would be a white elephant.

It seems that alot of people spend commendable energy ,time and effort raising funds for MFC via MISA .

As one who believes in least effort for biggest reward ( i think its known as either leverage-or some might say being lazy )is there more that MISA can do/get involved in/be allowed to get involved in, to assist in the success of the 5-a -sides.

Maybe the younger guys who want to get involved in MISA
