Royals rocking for Margate

By pulling power I mean the ability to get people through the doors! Thats what counts surely.

The music scene is vastly over populated, the first step is to get hold of a few promoters, they'll tell you who's gonna play what and for what kinda money.

If you were to get a half decent name down here you'd most likely fill the winters gardens, let alone the theatre royal.

Needs someone who knows popular music to be at the forefront, booking just anyone would lead to problems. Attract the right auidence 18-30, they are the people that'll spend big money behind the bar.

This kinda thing would require organisation and plenty of time and effort, the rewards though, are potentially huge!

I think you should really get your facts right AGMark as when the Rockin Royles play at the Winter Gardens they get a crowd in excess of 2,000 not bad for rock and roll dinosaurs eh.

And has for up and coming new talent, if you had bothered to come along you would have seen an up and coming talent called Wicked Chicken.

I don't like the inferred suggestion by PaulH that by not supporting an event unrelated to football I am not a true supporter.

I go to Hartsdown to watch FOOTBALL - period. I'll buy a raffle ticket, a shirt and support the tea-bar, but am not interested in pub based 'entertainment' like Quiz Nights or Race Nights.

I would walk past a pub with the "Rockin'Royles" playing for free, let alone pay a tenner to watch them.

I'm sure MISA do a good job, but am not that fanatical to suggest that by not supporting their fund raising efforts I am not a true supporter and resent the suggestion this is so.

Don't think that this situation is isolated to Margate, I sure you'll find that a Quiz Night run by Gillingham or Charlton supporters clubs gets a similar response to that of MISA ... you have to realise most of the supporters are only at football grounds for one thing - FOOTBALL.

Was this gig not advertised then?

From 2000 in the Winter Gardens to 100 in the Theatre Royal...questions have to be asked.

Couldn't make it along on the night, I am simply stating ways in which we could improve, I will continue to express my views, many will disagree of course, but then thats what a forum is all about, don't you just love it!

Can I just say that some of these posts are really getting silly. Does it all really have to turn into a slanging match? MISA do an awful lot to support the club but without support from fans, we can do no more. This is not a contest to see who attends the most games, quizzes or even to see a concert. The concert was advertised, maybe not to its full advantage, but still advertised on here and in a local paper. These things all cost money and with a lot at stake already, MISA rely on word of mouth aswell. We can never guantee anything we do. I can honestly say that i do not feel we will venture into anything like this again. Too much is at stake and again, without support, it cannot happen. Now, can we please all stop bloody moaning and actually concentrate on one thing? Supporting Margate FC!!!

Oh and by the way- those dinosuars rocked!!!

End of

Leah

Have to agree with Mark that we need to be looking at a younger audience if we want to generate real funds for the club on a regular basis through gigs. I don't see why it couldn't be a regular thing. Maybe once a fortnight in the clubhouse on a Saturday night (ideally after a home game). Thats of course depending on other bookings. There's real cash to be made on a regular basis if it can get off the ground. If of course we want to speculate to accumulate we could hire the Winter Gardens but I feel the cost of getting someone to fill that would be astronomical. Never know til you do your research though, and the guys that run the bar at Hartsdown will probably know some promoters who could give some prices.

Well done to the Rockin Royles though. Raising funds for the club is what it's all about.

Bloody hell Mark take your thumb out of your [****!!****]. I'm 28 years of age and wouldn't normally watch the likes of The Rocking Royals. My Point is that I did and must say, I had a really good time. There is enough interest in The Rocking Royals to fill that Theatre. I don't think The Sugar Babes would do a gig for nothing Mark!!!!! I thought the band were great Richard. Superblues, it seems you dont like much other than football doesn't it!!! I expect you'll pledge some money towards the cause then! I attended the Theatre Royal, I'll pledge a little money and attend games that I can.

Everybody that went to that gig had a great time. I'd see them again. The Rocking Royals and Wicked Chicken were very VERY good.

Come on lets not argue over this guys at the end of the day we all have our lives to lead and we all have our own interests but the main thing we all have in common is MFC who we all support and in our own ways contribute to the cause every week . If we reach the target so be it if we don`t i for one hope it helps the cause that its been started for . Up the Gate .

The Rocking Royals gave up time for free and fair play to them for that.

Why only 100 people at the gig?

Surely distributing flyers advertising this event wouldn't have been too taxing!

I bet there were many people that had no idea they were even playing!

As for the Sugababes....when did I mention that bunch of talentless mime artists?

Thats not real music!

I wonder what the average age of the MISA committee is, 55? 60?

That says it all really, they will cater for their own tastes first and foremost.

As for attending future MISA events, you've put a stop on that for me Paul, its worth pledging

While I don't want to sound like I'm slating those who work hard for MISA, I am surprised that flyers weren't distributed.

And surely it would help to have a couple of younger faces on the committee as Mark says. I've been around long enough to know you get ideas people, and you get people who will actually do things, but it can't do any harm to have ideas from youngsters with a passion for the club.

I fully intend to pledge Tony, the future of the club is paramount of course.

People go on the defensive as soon as a slightly critisism is made, why is that? This supposed to be a place of debate, is it not?

I intend to apply to join the commitee at the next AGM AB, I think it will be highly beneficial to have a different viewpoint on things.
