Slough v Thatcham

1-1 it finished and you can't say it wasn't coming. Thatcham deserved it but yet again a late equaliser has cost us the win.

They had the better of the play in the second half. Some of our approach play was good but we didn't create much. Defensively we looked better and Jackson really kept the score at 1-0 for a long time with some good saves.

Gray and Attrell playing off Jordan did quite well, but we really need a second striker up there.

Yeah Thatcham fully deserved that and should have won in my opinion, but again we get no luck in this league and yet again like last season let in a late goal.

I am though very disappointed about one thing, our lack of depth. Th bench was pathetic today. We've had all pre-season to get this sorted and bring in numbers. Thatcham brought a number of decent players on today to change the game. We had a 37 year old, two youngsters that are not ready yet for the first team a player deemed not good enough pre-season and our first team coach. It's so annoying and not good enough.

If someone has a bad game what pressure is on them to keep their place? Nothing. Now if you ask most local players with the support we have i'm sure that they'd love to play for STFC, yet we can't get decent players in reserve? It's stupid.

As for the game, it was always going to be a hold on job with the lack of numbers. Thought Harper, Attrell and Fenton played really well.

1-1 was probably a fair result overall, but it's just the way we conceded so late on that was a bit harsh, with Jacko making those awesome saves in the second half and a decent battling defensive display overall. Unfortunately our luck just ran out.

Thought Tom Attrell took his chance to start well, Harper, Fenton and Gray looked good too, while Jordan kept looking like the class player he is, always looking to set up other people.

I agree we still need a few more players in the squad.

Were very lucky not to lose that I feel. Thatcham deserve their draw.

Defensively the team looked better with Harper in the middle but I felt the midfield didn't control the play enough getting overrun and constantly putting pressure on the defence.

Its worry that their goalkeeper wasn't really tested unlike Jackson who did fantastic to kept the game at 1-0.

A week free now before FA Cup on Saturday, lets see some players brought in. Like Chris I am shocked at our bench and given its the start of the season I can't see us bringing in anyone soon.

Highlights of the day for me were both involving Lawrence brown, lovely header by jordan across for brown to score. The other brown bustlng through and nearly scoring (perhaps his nickname should be Raging bull) some felt he was held back and should of had a penalty, difficult one to me.

overall thought the ref was good for this level considering others.

Jordan should not be setting others up, they should be setting him up!

Yes a draw was about right, but our players were waiting for the wistle whilst Thatcham kept on playing.

Hope the injury list is not too long for Abingdon.

On the hair front, Slough were out styled by Thatcham - they had far more gel on display - tarts.

P.S. good to see the crab.

Has Jacko had to go off when he took a knock his replacement would have been known to my daughter - they go to the same school! That's the depth of the bench today.

Much improved performance and notably commitment from the previous two away games but Thatcham always looked like scoring and deservedley took a point, albeit galling that it came so late.

Attrell was the pick of the outfield players for me today but Jordan looks wasted up front on his own and needs a partner who's not permanently injured.

Well that was utterly gutting. Felt miserable after that all afternoon. At first, my reaction was we were robbed, but in reflection the last 15 mins we were a bit under the kosh.

It's just so disheartening for not just us, but I imagine the players as well, when a win is stolen away in the last 2 mins of the game.

We started off strongly, and the back 3/4 was a great improvement. Jacko had a cracking game, but harper, fenton, rids and brown were much improved from saturday's farce.

I agree the midfield looked a bit flat at times, Pritchard worked his [****!!****] off again, but he is but one man and cannot cover the whole middle third.

Attrell had a great game, but unfortunately, it wasn't matched by Roberts on the right wing. Gray tried hard but isn't a striker. DJ looked much better than on saturday, but he's always going to struggle without a good strike partner alongside him.

I hope there are some plans afoot to bring in at least another keeper, another younger striker, (no offence to Roy at all), and some midfielders with some grunt.

Should we not sign another forward in time, I believe that Tom Attrell does actually play up front as well as left wing, maybe it would be worth reversing today's tactic with Gray on the left and Attrell up front? The only issue with that is putting him up against a large centre back with his lightweight frame!

Have to agree I felt like we were robbed too at the time, but on the way home I realised that it was a fair result but the timing of the equaliser was what left me gutted.

yes, but as Marcus pointed out to me on the way home, pritchard and rids' injuries will have taken about three minutes each, then there were a number of subs to include time for too, so it was probably fair.

I was impressed by the ref today actually, it's just a shame that an inept linesman couldn't see that two of their players were offside near the end.

was gutting but yeah fair result probably. unfortunately "fair results" arent going to keep us in the league

thought Eamonn done well in midfield

Brown was awesome

Pritchard running on empty towards the end

Jacko was in inspired form

defence was so much better but doubt Rids will be happy playing in defence every single week

gray and DJ linked pretty well especially first half

roberts just isnt a right winger. not the guys fault just cant get into the game out there

attrell worked very hard indeed especially defensively i thought

man of the match probably Brown followed by Jacko, Fenton and Harper

Was discussing this with others behind the goal - I think Riddell has actually had some of his best games for us in the back line, such as when he was playing as sweeper last season.

Thatcham deserved at least a point, and had they scored earlier would probably have gone on to win. There is a lot of work to be done on this side before it will deserve or reach mid-table. As it stands, I just cannot see us getting much out of a game once we go behind. Apart from the goal, their keeper had an easy day of it.

That said, there was some fight today, and that is a definite plus.

crikey! 4 games in and its all doom and gloom!!! if we are all like this now we might as well give up, why not get behind the team, im sure derek and the management team are aware that they are short on numbers, and with 2 good players out injured doesnt help but im sure that they are not finished squad wise!(hope not) 4 games in and im sure they have been trying their best to bring players in so why dont we all trust what they are doing for now get behind everyone! after all we in the stands can be the 12 man!! we are moving ok slowly in the right direction!!!

It didn't cause Tony Boot any probnlems. Tom's a good little player and not scared to run at people. We could do a lot worse than try him playing off DJ.

Thats what is most worrying. You can hide defensive frailties if you can score goals but at the moment we're not creating many chances.

Jackson worked hard to keep us ahead, I can't think of one instance where Thatcham's keeper had to make a half decent save.
