Never really been a drinker at all ITH, nothing against it, just doesn't appeal to me. Same with smoking, but I believe that there used to be a confectioners next to the Silver Slipper at the top of Margate High Street that sold Woodbines in 5's!

Mind you, that was about 1963.

Correct you could get Wills Woodbines in a paper packet containing 5 cigarettes, Players Weights were likewise sold in packets of 5 also.

It's nice to see such a long STRAND to this thread - glad to see it hasn't been TURF - ed out.

Nice to keep the interest in the 50/50 draw/meat raffle going.

Yes, I was only a couple of numbers out on the 50/50 and out of the three prizes on the meat raffle I only got one colour right, let alone number! Still, all for a good cause.

Well I bought the ticket for the meat raffle as I had a pound over from the entrance price...& Tony it was a lovely tasty leg of lamb too! I'll probably never win again but I'll put in for it from now on :-) I missed last nights quiz due to childcare issues (mum is on hols) but we really enjoy the quiz nights and the food is nice too.

Give things a try and you never know you may just enjoy yourself!

Sorry Graeme, wasn't knocking your efforts, just stating that - speaking personally - I wouldn't go to any of the fuctions as I 'dont do that sort of thing'.

As a suggestion - how about a 'sporting evening' in the Hartsdown with Barry, T.Y. & Nev as guest speakers? But then again that wouldn't appeal to everyone either.

A useful suggestion, but how about extending it to have, say, a couple of players from Margate's past (and there are a few about) together with a couple of today's players and have an evening around that. You could still have someone from the Margate management team there.

Could be some quite interesting points re the way things were compared to how they are today and it might interest different generations, all with the common aim - football and Margate FC.

The one thing which I am sure that anyone who has promoted events will be aware of is, of course, selling the event. Sadly the days when people automatically went to the cinema or whatever on a given day of the week have gone as a result of the competition from eateries, multiplex cinemas, numerous tv channels so everyone is fighting for a piece of the action.

Might be worth a try though.
