Alot of the trouble is down to no experience on the pitch what so ever , don`t get me wrong but in the 2nd half today we did`nt have a clue , when we did have the ball we had no idea what to do with it and there was no one leading the squad ok louis is Capt but he had so much to contend with at the back there was no time to be a leader which = meltdown but he has no real experience himself . A few on here last yr wanted to see the youth come into the squad well they have and this is what we have to put up with , i have no problem what so ever with them playing but they really do need some help on the pitch . Ashby said he came to the club a month to late so all the experience had gone leaving him with absolutley no spine to the club and nothing really to spend so its a credit he is here with us knowing he had really nothing but the youth to work with . In time i think he will get the youngsters working together and from the odd spurts they have it in them to make us a club to be desired . If only someone could inject some money into the club for at least 4 experienced players we would have the spine that we need through the centre then Barry would have time to nurture the youngsters in and around them thus making us a more solid outfit than we are now . On a brighter note the signing of Wayne Wilson is one thing that Barry has got spot on , fantastic eye for the ball and a great prospect for us .

Anyway its still early days and we can`t put to much pressure on the lads , i would`nt want to be in there shoes and as long as they give there all there is nothing more than we can ask of them . Up the Gate .

Until the sending off, I think that, the lads were playing better than our opposition and very unfortnate not to be leading let alone 1-0 down. To then go down 2-0 down from the resulting free kick was a double whammy.

The lads have then got to try and chase a game with a man down. I think when this happens at any level a 2 goal swing is very hard to accomplish. Making us (today) and any other team (at any level) easy to pick off.

Had we been level with 10 men I don't believe Canvy would have looked as good as they did in the 2nd half.

Personnally I'd rather watch our lads go down by 4, giving their all, to try and get a result; than shut up shop and keep it to just the 2. Spaces were always going to open up all over the park but that's football and what I considered to be a dubious decision by the referee.

For some strange reason after reading your post hippy i am optimistic that we can get something from the Dover game, if i was there i think i would have felt differently. I don't think it would be good to start getting down after 3 games.

Frankie knows what i mean from being a Fulham fan.

For what it's worth MM, I entirely agree with Hippy's perspective. 4 nil definately flattered Canvey. What we're missing for me at the moment is a regular goalscorer, someone who we can expect to get 25-30 goals this season. Wayne Wilson looks like a really good find and I'm sure he'll contribute a few from distance (definately happy to have a go). We need our strikers to get into the habit. But it's early doors, we have only played 3 games after all - let's see what happens in the next few.

We have a striker in Power-who i think leads the line well.

What i am not convinced by is that Peters is a striker-good player-yes-but not a striker.

Agree with cookie-that peters needs to come into the attack from deeper postions.

pratt is the 'natural goalscorer'imo and deserves a starting chance/run in a couple of games i feel as a striker.

i also feel he will work better with Power

He has unfortunately looked very disinterested to me.

Talented player-but possibly the first head to drop ?

A chance there for BA and Peters to work on that aspect and make him into a star.

Thats the way to get other clubs interested-play well with the right attitude for 100 minutes.

He undoubtably has the ability to inspire the players around him but equally for them to see his head go down so easily will spread a defeatist attitude throughout the team.

Agree that he has'nt looked entirely comfortable up front and would like to see him in a position behind the strikers, given a little bit more time on the ball rather than having to feed off scraps and long balls with his back to goal constantly surrounded by much bigger defenders.

Agree with that entirely Big Ron, he's at his best going forward, taking the defence on.

For what it's worth I believe we already have a 25-30 goals a season man waiting in the wings, in Joe Taylor.

Plus is McAree still not fit yet and where's Lewis?

Surely once these 3 lads start to play the goals will start to come, in abundance, I hope.

I think he needs as u say to be running at defences rather than being in the mix with, no offence meant here but more statuesque players, his diminutive stature means he is pushed off the ball regularly, but running at players he has momentum and skill to roll round them. The problem therefore for BA is finding the position thats suits him best, Trotty failed and Brentford seemed at a loss as well. Still feel we need the likes of Paul Smith and/or Pat sappleton to boost the youngsters and maybe calm/control the game more. Tom Hickman has taken on the mantle of verbal coach on the field and shows his passion for the game in bucketloads, unfortunately whilst trying to inspire the lads he takes his eye off the game. All credit to him for trying though. Communication seems to be the ingredient missing at the minute from SCS right through. BA should give some lessons on shouting (hes good at that wink)

Should we be building the team around Ryan when his head does'nt seem right at the moment?

I've no doubt that he'd benefit from a free role behind the strikers but what do we sacrifice to give it him?

We'd little or no width yesterday and they took full advantage of the open spaces we gave them so to burden the midfield with the duty of having to cover for a roving attacking midfielder could leave us even more exposed down the flanks, maybe a switch to a back three could be an answer with Parkinson and Corbishly getting forward as wing-backs, leaving two from Wilson, Stubbs or Smith to hold the middle releasing Ryan to work his magic behind two strikers.

Now i'm normally a strict 442 man but i could see this working especially if Sappleton comes in to marshall the defence.

At least we all agree what is going wrong. MF, SSS, Cookie, DR, all sum up exactly my own thoughts.

In particular Hartsdownfan has put it in a nutshell: we need experience, we need money. When you have to throw a 23-year-old lad into the captaincy at Ryman Premier level something must be wrong.

Last season people were saying get rid of the experienced players and play local lads. It doesn't work, does it? A blend of experience and youth is needed.

No doubt people who have been funding the team are experiencing difficult times in their businesses, but that will apply to most other teams too. Also, we have some of the best gate receipts in the league.

And how come we have 4-man management team? Isn't that a bit mad at our level? How much money are they getting, and couldn't some of it be channeled into the playing squad?

Players will start coming available in a couple of months time when teams start going out of the FA Cup. I would ask the MFC directors to dig deep, otherwise we will be on the relegation train again.

I think that this was just a bad day at the office. In any game you need the run of the ball and we did not get that.

We hit the post from a free kick

We had a volley from wayne brilliantly saved when it could easily have gone in.

We had a great chance to score from about 8 yards but unfortunately the ball was hit weakly.

This was all in the first half when we should definately have been leading.

We were still well in the game at 0-1 when Young collided with the trailing leg of a Canvey player.I don't think it was intentional but they scored from the free kick, Young was sent off and it was 0-2.

I know you lose the advantage of playing offside but I have always thought you should put your tallest player on the line for these free kicks and if we had they would not have scored.

They then scored a penalty and a scrambled goal and yes the result did flatter them although I take nothing away from them because they played the right sort of game against 10 men.We were chasing shadows as they passed the ball around us and we could not get back into the game.

The defining moment was going down to 10 men and 0-2 Until that moment we were well in the game,

Dover will be tough so lets do our best give the lads our support and look forward to Heybridge when I am sure we will get our best result so far.

Up until their first goal (back post again, anyone?), it was good, we threatened occasionally from set-pieces and, overall, we probably shaded it. Who knows, if Wilson's powerful volley had ripped the net, the outcome could have been very different. But, let's be honest, no rose-tinted spectacles can hide the fact that, after that first goal, it was simply awful.

It's hard to pin-point where the problem lies. Once Young was off, the defence looked like they had never met each other before, yet, before the dismissal, we looked OK at the back. Again, individually, the midfield did not do anything terribly but, on reflection, the service to 'the front two' (I use the term loosely) was almost non-existant. I didn't actually realise Morris was playing until about the 70th minute; he seems to run a lot, but nothing else.

As aforementioned, the front two had little service but, in spite of that, they were poor. Where all this seeming support for Power is coming from, I will never know. He is one of the worst players I have seen pull on a blue shirt; slow, barely gets off the ground when he jumps, and a dreadful touch. Not to mention his general lack of effort; Pratt did more running in 15 minutes than Power did in 90! And, personally, I think it may be time to drop Peters. I am not for one second doubting his ability, but he thinks he is indispensable. As soon as a player's ego grows to such an extent, it's time to drop him.

I think as the season goes on, we will realise how poor this result was: getting hammered 4-0 at home by a mediocre opposition is not acceptable. For all those who will harp on 'Oh, but they're only young', do me a favour! I can accept getting beat; I can even accept getting beat heavily, if I could see the team's commitment, and the fact that when they come off the pitch, they have given their all and run themselves into the ground. But I did not see that at all yesterday, and that is a very bitter pill to swallow.

Whilst I'm ranting: what the hell is happening on the terraces!? Other than being embarassed on the pitch, we were absolutely humiliated off the pitch in terms of support. The Canvey fans outsung us all game! How much more can us 8 singers (at a push) do? We need more vocal support to really get behind the team. It was more like an away game yesterday!
