Stevenage Borough match

In attack, we looked equally comfortable and dangerous with John or Gash latching onto the long balls, or with the whole team contributing to slick passing.

The defence was brilliant. Every challenge and header was ours. McCarthy brings such a reassuring presence to the team, and so does Ricketts- Hawkins isn't bad, but I feel more comfortable watching a back four with Ricko in instead of him.

All of the midfield and the strikers looked purposeful today, and it felt like everyone brought something different into our attacking approach. With Akinde replacing Shakes and Ibe coming on for Gash, we had eight players who could give us a different option. If the long ball failed, we could rely on Stacy and Shakey on the wings, or on Barratt and Stone creating chances through tenacity, or on the superhuman brilliance of Akinde.

The attendance was good, considering they brought 200 max, and the atmosphere was buzzing in the Plough End. There isn't one thing I can criticise about today!

Quote:however against a small-time side like Ebbsfleet (although they had a terrific trophy run and did well to win it last season) there is no excuse for losing 4-0 and on the back of drawing 1-1 in a mediocre football display against other [****!!****] outfit Weymouth, AND losing 3-1 at home to newly-promoted part-timers Eastbourne, there is nothing Mr. Westley can say to justify having such a rubbish start.Quote

Boy are they sore on Satans forum.

i enjoyed the game today, but what pleased me most was the subs bench, mott, hawkins, hand, ibe and akinde, they were players ready to come on and not weaken the team. With purcell, smith, pooley and slatter waiting in the wings, we now have a very strong squad and barring a lot of injuries we will be pushing the so called top teams this season.Blue square think the same and have slashed our odds for the title to 11/1.

The worst Stevenage side for many a season. They looked disjointed and dispirited from our first attack in the first minute & there seemed no understanding at the back at all.

We mixed and matched our style of play well - the occasional long ball forward (usually from Lance or Sacha) along side some neat passing moves.

We will have tougher games, but I too am feeling very positive about this season - with a solid back line through a decent midfield (which is developing well) and several forward options available, if we can play consistently to the standards we have been setting ourselves, we certainly should be challenging for promotion/ a play off place this season.

One player who seems to improve year on year is Luke Moore - he may have had some stick on here in the past, but his movement, confidence and strength is still growing and he is becoming a genuinely important cog in Liam's wheel. His ability to play either in midfield or up front is extremely useful as well.

Hi

I went to the game today with by brother-in-law and nephew taking advantage of the get one in free voucher....great idea! Brill game, 4 goals in the sunchine.

I did, however, have the misfortune to witness a neanderthal of a security guard outside the main turnstile block "force" a fan who had his son and daughter with him to give up some bottles of water that was trying to take into the ground. I don't know what the rules are but this guy was embarrased to say the least and those watching were embarrased for him. The security guard adopted the "could'nt give a toss" attitude and rolled himself a cigarette while this poor guy was remonstrating with him.

Come on Ebbsfleet let common sense apply. It was a warm afternoon and this guy haad sensibly taken along drink for his kids. If we are trying to encourage new fans this is NOT the way to go.

We will be back!

Thanks for the information Long John. We have had a problem with alcohol being smuggled into the ground, vodka in water bottles and cider in powerade bottles. Sounds like this guy was overzealous to say the least. And as for smoking while working... We'll look into it.

I agree, although I got a sharp nudge in the ribs when I started to join in with "the referee's a [****!!****]" chant. Nearly had to eject myself from the ground smile Nice to see the half-way liners wake up though!

Can we move the dugouts to our side please Digitalis? I'm a bit worried that Graham Westley didn't hear all the good wishes we sent his way.

Having just finished doing all the mandatory weekend house work stuff (gave up on ironing as I cant find ironing board) I now have a few minutes to reflect.

From the opening attack right through to the final whistle , we looked a tight outfit , full of ideas (that worked) , full of running , full of team spirit , full of goals.

I always believe that the mark of a good team is the ability to create chances from all over the pitch for all players. With Paul Mcarthy going close a couple of times early on showed not only the poor man marking of Stevenage but the ability and believe to push a man forward withouth fear of being hit on the break,

Luke Moore gets better and better. Hope Shakes , shakes of his knock. Big John was full of running again. Darius and ricketts again stood out defesively as indeed did sacha.

Stevange fans need not be down hearted though , to loose 4-0 away to the outfit we have is not shameful. Just get over the idea of "Small time club" you have of us and accept that this league is getting tougher and tougher by the year.

Lewes tomorrow and two cracking home games against the boat race boys to look forward to and we could be well placed come the first week of September and that barrage of long away trips in the following 5 weeks

who are these people if u know why dont u point them out so we all dont get blamed! most of the people behind the goal go to the bar before , half time and after the game.and i can say i,ve never seen anyone drinking vodka from plastic bottles.but ive seen the stewards smoking and being rude to fans which is not right.Anyway great result felt sorry for bostwick not 4-0 to the pride of kent.
