May Day March

Just passed by, took about twenty minutes.

 

Not sure I have ever seen a stranger collection of soap dodging odd balls in all my life. I thought it was an anti-capitalist affair and we had variously: anti-war, anti-nazi, free Palestine, Free Cyprus, Free Kurdistan, RMT, Unison, ASLEF, T & GW, Marxists, Maoists, Leninists, the prostitutes union and people carry pictures of a Des Lynham lookalike to name but a few. I am sure there were people there who would not be that impressed with Stalin or Mao's human rights record but it doesn't seem to bother them.

 

The best "direct action" so far is a report of someone having their tie cut off by a rampaging Womble.

I thought that May day marches was just about anti-capitalists, but I was reliably informed that it is also a day when enviromentalists come out as well. I think it's generally a day put a-side when people 'celebrate' their right to protest. I remember doing a class assembly on it, and I can't remember the exact details but: some people were protesting ages ago,a bomb went off, some people were killed and now May Day is put aside to honour this. WEIRD!!!
