I have been flicking through the posts I have missed while I have been in Kingston today, and it's fair to say that the criticism of the performance last night is fair. I wasn't there but the result says it all.

The important thing is that we all stick together, because without the fans there would be even less money to go around.

Yes it's pretty obvious that we are in need of a bigger squad, and most importantly some more proper defenders, but obviously Sweetman is tied down by restraints.

On a different note, there is much optimism off the pitch, the publicity from the posters and the Observatory stall brought in around 90 extra people on our average attendance from last year. That is very positive and it is a sign of how much interest there can be with the right publicity. In a way it is better to have these disasterous results away from home instead of in front of new fans at Beaconsfield.

The stall will be manned by myself and Alan Harding tomorrow and Friday from around 10.15 til around 3.30.

RWG (and Barry Scott), do you not realise that if we are ever to achieve our former glories, it needs to be done within our (sustainable) resources - therefore bit by bit.

Expecting Sweetman to come along, wave a magic wand and expecting Slough to turn into Chelsea is not the way to go about things. 2 games into the season, one bad performance and everyone is waving their hands in despair, shouting that Sweetman isn't good enough and should be sacked!!!! Too many clubs have had moneybags come along to do similar things, and too many of them have ended in tears.

Off the pitch things are improving for the better, but these has only been the case for a matter of weeks and it will take time for the benefits to filter through to the pitch (i.e. being able to attract players for a promotion push). Quite frankly, I would be happy to finish lower mid-table, with perhaps the odd cup win this season, ready for perhaps a crack at the play-offs next season, providing things off the pitch continue to improve.

God there are some fickle fans on here!!! We are a Village team indeed but we are in the Southern League because we deserve to be!!!! Yes Slough are a big non-league club with plenty of history and a good fan base but we are not the ones that got a reprieve last season. We won our league and deserve the right to playing Southern League footy! I appreciate it's not everyone who has posted on here and there have been some very pleasant comments as well as the childish and petty ones!!! I think you will be mid table and will take some decent points off teams this season. Hopefully we'll finish higher but it's a long old season and we are just enjoying our start for the time being and after the next 2 games we will see how far off we actually are!!! Best of luck for the rest of the season apart from when you play us. We'll get plenty of boxes of tissues in for your next visit for all those crying fans of yours!!! Cheers Norlye. ;o)

Hopefully I will be at cinderford on saturday even after that dismal performance tuesday. I wasn't there but sympathise with those that were. It seems to me that our fans patience is finally running out and on a couple of occasions last year, notably when I went to winchester, even I said I can't take much more of this. I like many of you are Slough Town through and through but if there is a God ( and I don't mean Terry!!) then surely if a club deserves a break, then it has to be us. I just really hope we get a result on Saturday and that tuesdays was a one off blip. Even though North Leigh are a "village" team, doesn't mean we have the right to beat them and who knows, they may go on and win the league. A few seasons ago the same could be said of Langney Sports who I watched on a number of occasions and look what happened to them. For those who don't know they became Eastbourne Borough and were no more than a sunday league team at one point!!

All I will say is please try and keep the faith and with a bit of luck and hard graft we'll get our rewards.

See you saturday

PS. After reading some of the comments on this thread I am going to change my name to Shaun the Sheep!!!!

Yes things may be improving off the pitch, and everyone realises that improved budgets probably won't come along until the new stadium is up and running. But I can assure you that should we sink any lower then the fan base will go with it,I can also assure you that it will be hard to attract them back once they have gone.So its imperative that we stay in this league and even more of a future bonus to try and win it.Sadly at present we niether have a good enough team or management in place( keep on saying its only one game, but when that turns into two, three, four, start worrying ).

ps nathan when I was a new supporter like yourself I was optimistic-but then we had the players to be optimistic about.

firstly how do you know how long nathan has been a supporter and then know this that some supporters have been there even longer than you claim to be and are still optimistic.

not everyone will walk away when things get hard, its called loyalty.

I would be amazed if there were longer serving supporters than me-I don't see them at the games.Nathan has not been a supporter to long you can tell by his messages.

ps. and to answer the other quezzie YES I was at North Leigh. As you know I was at Witney, and that was further on.

RWG there is a chap in his eighties approaching ninety who has supported the rebels for more than 60 years i not sure of his name others will know. unless you are him then you are not the longest serving supporter.

Not that it matters in supporting your argument you try to belittle the newer supporters. what does it matter if you have only been supporting the club for a short time, what matters is whether you support the club now.

I never said I was the longest or oldest supporter-I actually said I would be amazed if there were any !!
And no its does not matter if you are new or long serving every penny counts.I never belittled a new supporter, but I don't think I need to be told about Slough Town by nathan who is relatively short of my experiences.

In his tenth year, so he is obviously a complete novice whose opinions deserve to be dismissed without consideration.

Well you seem to know what I mean then lol!!

RWG, I apologise wholeheartedly for not being born in 1950 and am not currently in my 50th year of supporting the club.

Why does someones opinion not count if they have not been supporting for 20 odd years, i have been going to slough games since i was 10 (20 years ago) but i do not think that makes my opinion anymore valid than someone who has been going for 19 years.IMHO i think anyone who has seen slough since their drastic fall through the leagues recently (anything over 2 years)can comment and have a valid opinion on expectations now. But

i think a large chunk of what RWG says is spot on. Especially his comment about league drop= less fans= not coming back! Where are the 1500 we used to regularly get in the conference?

unfortunately thats the way football works. if we were ever to make it there again the majority would come flooding back claiming to be real fans. same as if we had a good FA cup run. every single person who regularly goes to slough during their struggles are the ones worthy of an opinion of the here and now
