Staines 1 Billericay 0

I suppose we should take some comfort that Staines won through a penalty and that was given from what looked like ball to hand from a shot. So, taken from that stand point, they were not good enough to score in open play...but somehow that just doesn't do it for me...

...Staines did everything in the first 20 minutes that we should've...and some. We couldn't hold the ball, our distribution was not as we had come to expect and we were slow to get going (at times our distribution and holding possession was woeful for most of the game). And Staines were quick to exploit our weakness down our left quickly...Some may point out that this is the sign of a team that is one of the favorites to win the league.

But...

I thought our second half performance was good enough to scrape a draw. When under pressure, the Staines defence were not happy bunnies and only some cynical falling over to break up the play saved them...which the ref was mug enough to give(and he was a mug...possibly the worst Ryman ref I have seen for many a season).

So, positives - Well, when we play and force the pace we look good. Paul Shave played well in the middle of the park, Fergie look different gravy, Joe Flack is getting sharper and Dave Wareham is showing strength when either tackling in midfield or going forward.

Put this one down as a wake up call and roll on Tuesday. This time, lets start playing from the start whistle.

One amusing aside...attendance 277...of which there were quite a few Billericay supporters. According to one flag the home support are the "The Staines Massive"...Ho hum.

okay we have improved from last match there which was a 3-1 defeat, but it is only the first game so we need to pick out the major problems and put them right for future reference and the inevitable result from this would hopefully give us a better team on the pitch all round!
