Beaumont Athletic

At the Annual General Meeting and in a subsequent e-mail, Beaumont Athletic advised the league that they would be using Mile End Stadium during the coming season. This has proved not to be the case.

Alternative facilities were put forward but following two inspections by members of the Management Committee where found not to be of a standard acceptable to the league.

An Emergency Committee meeting was subsequently held and it was the unanimous decision of the Committee that Beaumont Athletic be excluded from the constitution for season 2008/2009 as they were unable to fulfil the requirements of league rule 1 (A)

Adjustments have been made to the fixtures to reflect this decision

It's to do with the rules that prevented Bethnal Green Utd and FC Clacton entering the ESL this season but allowed Takeley FC in.

Takeley finished runner up in their league, which is Step 7 (No Step 6 League in Essex other than Ridgeons Div 1), whereas BGU and FC Clacton did not finish high enough in their respective leagues.

Therefore the likes of Mauritius Sports and Beaumont Ath would not now get into the ESL under the new rules.

It is no longer enough to have access to a ground that is suitable.

Nothing to do with where Takeley finished, Hookey. Beaumont wanted to leave for the Olympian League and the ESL said only if they could have an Olympian League club in exchange. Hence, Takeley were transferred into the ESL, not promoted. The fact that a late spurt meant Takeley eventually finished in a promotion position was purely coincidental and had no relevance to their being admitted into the ESL.

FM, I think you wrong.

Takeley were allowed to be promoted to the ESL because they finished second in the EOL. This was an FA ruling. If they had finished 3rd they would not have been allowed to move up. By the same token, if AFC Clacton finish in the first two this season, they can opt to transfer to the ESL.

Beaumont could have stayed in the ESL if they wished to but decided not too. They were fined for dropping out well after the deadline. Allegedly (according to the TK site) the British Bengal FA did not want another Step 5 club to compete with Sporting Bengal so forced Beaumont to drop down a level. Maybe TBG will concur.

I think what Beeswax is saying is that although you may be right about the fact that Takeley finishing Runners-Up was coincidental, if they had not done so, the FA would not have allowed them to "transfer" to the ESL.

I know what Beeswax is saying, Hookey. However, the facts of the matter are that the transfer of Beaumont & Takeley between leagues had been agreed, and approved by the FA, long before Takeley's final league position was known. As Takeley were transferring into the League, rather than being promoted into it, it didn't actually matter whether they came top, bottom or anywhere inbetween.

That makes sense as I knew Takeley had been accepted into the ESL back in March, long before the EOL season ended!!!

Sounds like one rule for Takeley and another for FC Clacton and BGU... I'm sure that's just a simplistic view and it was more complicated than that.

In a way you're right in that there are rules that apply to transfers and rules that apply to promotion.

Beaumont wanted to go and the ESL knew that Takeley wanted to come in so, smartly, the ESL insisted on the transfer before agreeing to Beaumont's departure. It was long overdue that the ESL got a club in return for a departing one!

My information is that Beaumont did not have to leave the ESL and that the ESL wanted them to stay.

As for Takeley coming over wherever they finished, that isn't accurate. They needed to be in the top two clubs to be promoted and if they finished 3rd then they would not have been allowed to go up. By your criterion, AFC Clacton would have been allowed to come over too.

They could make a last ditch bid for acceptance into the Middlesex County League or the Essex Business Houses League, although it will not be easy to get back into the pyramid from the latter.

Mind you, if there is some sort of Asian/Bangladeshi League in London (which I think there might be), they may be happy playing in that.
