Torquay Away

I really like Smith and Charles, both, but I have to believe we lose some cohesion without McCarthy.

I'm not a fan of Hawkins at all. He may be experienced, but he's left for dead regularly and exposes us too often. Plus, he's guilty of the aimless long ball very often.

I say drop Hawkins, start Ricketts, and possibly get McCarthy back in there to share time with Smith. Just my opinion.

I wish we had accepted the Akinde offer now. Gash and Moore seem to partner well and the goals will come. And with Ibe and Appiah as cover up front, I think we're ok. We could use that 100k and sign one more midfielder.

The problem with playing both Smith and Charles is that they are both players that like to attack the ball. If you have to players going to attack the ball, it leaves a massive gap in the defence. When Macca played, he usually stayed back and positioned himself to fill that gap, while the other defender went and attacked the ball.

Wow. Thank you for that nugget of information. I'll watch for that. That quality of insight is sadly still lacking on the MyFC site.

Any idea when we'll get McCarthy back?

I believe McCarthy has been suffering from a slight strain and no chances are being taken at this stage of the season. I didn't read that he didn't expect to be playing rather that he didn't assume himself to be an automatic choice.

Its a tough call as to the best pairing, in the past we have looked much more organised when he's playing but that may also be attributable to the fact that he never seems to miss a header. Either way we have 3 very strong centre backs......

I am not a Hawkins fan (and wasn't last season either) and Ricketts was playing very well when he came back from injury at the back end of last season.....I hope he gets his chance soon.

Where's Pooley ?
