CCL V SCL

Recommended Posts

Just wondered if the Combined counties prem is on a par with the top sussex league division and how in the past CCL teams have fared against their sussex counterparts.

We ( Westfield ) are at home to East Preston in the cup on sat. History suggests a very tough game as they have always been a top 6 side however we heard over the grapvine ( cant confrm if true or not) that they lost their manager and several players pre season and they've had a very poor start to their season including a 4-1 thrashing away to pagham last night

I disagree Jurg. I reckon over the last couple of years the CCL is a stronger league. Top 3 or 4 from Sussex would be top sides in the CCL but I reckon the rest would all struggle.

Have to agree with Kroons, the top few in SCL would do ok in CCL rest would struggle, we played 3 sides from Sussex last year in FA Competitions and won all comfortably apart from Vase game at Three Bridges, which was a tough 1-0 win for us.

The SCL was always a good league and in some ways a better league in respect of the ground gradings many SCL teams had floodlights and stands long before CCL teams, in recent years we have caught them up and in some cases surpassed them,a few years ago we (Ash)played against Chichester in the FA Vase and they had the likes of Bobby Stokes(ex Southampton) in thier side,we took 2 coachloads of supporters and loads went by car the crowd was about 600 happy days.

Having Managed in both, previously Lingfield, Horsham YMCA and Three Bridges and now currently Horley Town, i would go with the view that the top 3 or 4 in Sussex would do ok, the rest would struggle.

Horley played 3 Sussex sides last season in FA Cup and FA Vase and beat them all.

I honestly think that there are very few easy games in the CCL. Every year in Sussex 1 there are teams who are dreadful. In my 1st season in the CCL even the sides who finished at the bottom of the league last year were capable of giving anyone a good game on their day.

I think their manager went to Horsham YMCA and took half the team with him.

Historically Camberley have usually done well against Sussex sides. Never played East Preston though. East Preston are struggling though having lost both league matches and are at the bottom with Chichester City United who we beat 6-1 in a pre-season friendly. Lasts season Camberley played 4 Sussex sides :- Chichester City W 1-0 (Friendly), Worthing United W 2-0 (should have been more), Three Bridges W 1-0 and Southwick W 4-0 (all in the opening 20 minutes then we took our foot off the gas).

Given Westfield have had a good start this season, think you have a better than average chance of winning
