Advice to Referee's (and I'm not taking the p*ss)

Recommended Posts

Heard about this last night. How on earth can the Surrey FA being saying this whilst at the same time clubs at our level are being told the law will be enforced fully?!

There is a possibility of players not being allowed to play or having to cut wedding rings off while at the same time "grass roots" players are allowed to ignore the law.

my understanding of the jewellery rule is that it has to be removed. If it cannot be removed, then it can be taped up and the player allowed to play the game. The player will then be reported to the FA and will be banned until the item can be removed.

Why they didnt leave it as it was for the past few years where a wedding ring was allowed as long as it was taped. Some wives get really funny if their husband takes their ring off.

Cant see it lasting once the FA start getting 500+ emails every Monday morning with lists of who cant take jewellery off.

he might have removed the earring and taped up the area to be on the safe side I suppose.

you would hope the guy who did the headbut might be in more trouble.

another guy in the same "brawl" took his boot off and was waving it around like a dagger, nothing done against him. or to the dorking player who put his arm round the frimley player and gave him a friendly pinch.

i spoke with the officials briefly afterwards and they quite rightly said they punished what they saw, they were looking through a crowd of players.why do the two linos run to meet the ref at half time and follow the players in, they would have had a better view if the dressing room side lino had gone straight to the gate

thats easy TSF, officials join the pitch as a team and leave the pitch as a team and are frowned upon if they dont.

As for our player who took his boot off, he was lucky the ref didnt see it and our players did well to get him out of the way. One of our players went in with a massive bit of gob on his shirt which p*ssed everyone off. You'd rather get punched than be gobbed on!

I am NOT going to get embroiled in the H/T incident at Meadowbank. That is a matter for the management/coaching staff to deal with.

As far as this jewellry debacle is concerned, I would offer my five penny worth as follows.

A typical F.A. cop-out, as this extract from their web-site shows:-

"If a player is unable to remove, say a plain wedding ring, then the referee should apply a practical approach to the management of the situation."

What the feck is a 'practical approach' ?

I guarantee you'll see taped wedding rings in Premiership games. Certain players, contrary to popular belief devoutly believe in their wedding vows and would REFUSE to remove a wedding band !

I suppose it all comes down to what a player thinks is more important. His marriage, or kicking a bit of plastic around for 90 minutes !

I had to take my wedding ring off last night before the game against Cobham. I then advised the assistant ref to contact his brief cos he would be hearing from my brief very soon. He didnt seem too bothered and continued to ask me to remove my ring. I did remove it and told him i'd see him court.

Just before the toss of the coin i felt that getting the lino back on side was an important factor. I proceeded to tell him that my wedding ring only ever comes off at weekends and that i would have to get used to it coming off before football matches from now on. He laughed - the wife didnt!!

Stupid rule!!

Common sense surely will prevail???

We'll wait and see, Johnny Boy. I hope you're right. We'll wait and see.

I think had I been in your position, I might have well been in the bar long before the rest of the team. Probably a good hour and a half before !
